Probably a bit of both - I'd expect random games where somebody unexpected goes off, like a Buie 25+ game or something.

Once NU lost to Merrimack, I got more excited about this team in a strange way, because the pressure was just way off. Excited to see the youngsters grow this year. I just want to see Berry in purple because I get nervous after Bam and Lathon that We Can't Have Nice Things. Next year could be interesting if Berry gets here.
He already has signed. Where would he be going?

The unexpected issues with Lathon and the decommit of Bamisile. Man if Bamisile had kept his commitment next years team could be top 4-5 in the conference

Meanwhile Lathon is not exactly setting the world on fire in what it seems like a decent UTEP team

Bam is a composite ranked #66 recruit by 247. That means a lot of big ten frosh, not to mention upperclassmen are more highly rated. How does 1 true frosh borderline blue chip make us a top 4 or 5 conference team (which in the big ten is basically a top 15 team in the country).

Losing Lathon definitely hurt, but may be a blessing in disguise in the long run. Who knows if Buie would end up in Evanston if Lathon were here. At this point, I would take Boo over Lathon hands down.

Lathon is averaging 6.3 pts, 3.2 assists and shooting 33% from field and 22% from 3, against lower tier competition. How is losing Lathon hurting? HIs numbers are bad in a weak league. In big ten he’d likely be awful.

It hurt last year when we didn't have a point guard, no? Doesn't anymore thanks tji Boo. That was my point.

What’s the evidence that Lathon would’ve better than Greer?

Sigh.

Dude, we're arguing the same thing. It definitely hurt when Lathon's scolly was revoked, because it created a huge hole at that position given our mix of players last year. And I'm saying maybe in the long run it might actually turn out for the better for us. Try to keep up.

Would like to add that that Indiana made 23 of 30 free throws to NU's 8-10 last night

Spencer and Young are the only guys on the team who consistently make strong moves to the basket. Everyone else seems to largely avoid contact--or occasionally drive and throw up a prayer begging for a foul call. Turner got lucky on one of these last night and drew a foul when he wasn't even touched.

Meanwhile, Indiana has a team full of aggressive players and is #2 in the country in FTA to FGA. (Northwestern is 234th in this category.) There was good reason for the FTA discrepancy last night.

Since we are a good free throw shooting team (29th in the country at 76.3%), it is unfortunate that we are not able to get to the line more. We've had some guys over the years who excelled at getting to the line (Eschmeyer, Neloms, Rankin, Jitim, Shurna), but it's been a while.

I agree you have made it very clear why there was such a large discrepancy in FT's attempted and made.

never updated for MSU
MSU beats NU like a rented mule, then goes to Wisconsin who have had their second leading scorer quit and a starter suspended for grabbing the opponent's coach's son's jewels, and lose after giving up 41 first half points. Crazy.
