I know Castiglione said BV's job was secure, but what if we get blown out by Bama AND LSU? Could that trigger a coaching change? If not, how could they justify keeping BV after such a disastrous season?

We are going to get blown out. I can't imagine anyone thinking otherwise. Joe C is in tough catch 22. We are losing recruits. If he fires BV and staff we will likely lose more recruits. If he doesn't we will just have our top recruits poached.

If we get beat like 45 - 3 or or worse then there is going to be a lot of heat on BV. Add this to our OC, QB , oline, and now losing some very important recruits and something could go down.

Well is his buyout going to be that much better next year? Joe C has way more confidence in BV than I do.

"Instead of an outright immediate trailer of cash, Oklahoma would pay Venables in monthly installments for the remaining five years of his contract. The contract does not require Oklahoma to pay Venables a lump sum by a certain date or include a reduced percentage buyout, both of which are pretty typical for most contracts."

"If he is fired by the Sooners at the conclusion of the season, coach Venables would receive $711,243 per month until his contract expires on Jan. 31, 2030. The Sooners would pay Venables roughly $3.73 million per year for the next five years."

Here is the full breakdown of Venables' buyout by season:

  • $44.8 million after the 2024 season
  • $34.9 million after the 2025 season
  • $26.2 million after the 2026 season
  • $17.4 million after the 2027 season
  • $8.5 million after the 2028 season
  • $0 after the 2029 season

Joe C. has done a great job, his job should not be questioned. There are other sports other than football. Yes, BV has not panned out as planned and the contract extension was not warranted, but otherwise hes done a good job at hiring coaches.

That contract extension for accomplishing nothing was just stupidity. That alone should can JC

We lost a QB, Sperry, who was not worth damn--according to Murdoch, OU had cooled off on the MFer.

Glad to be wrong on this and happy for the seniors. They deserve to have an overachieving game.
