For those of you who said Gabby Williams was going to play a little bit this season for UNC well I hate to burst your bubble but CB just told all of us how valuable Gabby Williams will be for this team just like I tried to tell some of you. If you listen to the video above CB gives tells you just how valuable and how impactful Gabby W. will be for us this season. I tried to tell some of y'all, but you just don't listen. The fact of the matter is CB is the head coach, she sees each player in practice, workouts, etc. each day and she should know.
CB sounds about as excited for this team as I have heard her. The schedule is tough in how it lays out but if we can stay above water until February I think we will be in good shape for post season. I’m excited!
Jriv23 I think some prefer to take the more cautious “I’ll believe it when I see it” path and that’s okay. From the beginning I was excited because I thought she provided another ball handler that we did not have last year. Now I am excited to see the total of what she can bring. The only thing I can tell you for certain is that we will not have more than 10 players earning more that 10 minutes every game. That is as big of a rotation as you will see in D1.

If you are certain that player B will be in the rotation then that means you can identify players C & D who will be behind them only getting spot minutes.

While there may be a fairly well set starting five I fully expect to see a lot of lineups based on match ups. Need to play big? Got it. Need to play small and quick? Got that too. Should be an interesting year. I hate to do this to her but the ultimate potential may just depend on how quickly Kate becomes comfortable at this level. She could draw a lot of attention.
One theme from the PC and something I have heard her mention before is getting bigger, stronger, faster. That is music to my ears. WBB is not the same game as 20yrs ago and if you ever get the chance to sit next to the court you can see and hear just how physical it is now. Strength matters. Now I just hope some of our other Olympic sports teams will get that message.

Gabby, Sophia, and Chloe played in the ACC last year; therefore, they know what to expect and they are very familiar with all the teams in the ACC. I expect our scrimmage vs Davidson for CB to probably get everyone minutes and use to experiment. Also anyone else notice CB mention a second exhibition vs Maryland? 
6string did you not hear or listen to CB's. RK is 100% healthy. That is going to make a difference. Chloe will play both positions which will take pressure off of Kate along with
Gabby so she will have more time to become comfortable with the college game.

Kate Reniya Nyla Achol Ciera Plus Sophie and Clardy maybe Laila are my top eight rotation.
Who else steps up and earns a spot we will know when it happen.
We led the ACC in 3point shooting last season, I am anxious to see who fills the void left by Grant and Arnisalo. We have some great options but I want to see it work on the court and I loved the style we played last season so who is going to be our corner bombers?
CB is comparing White to Nivar. She loved Nivar and loves defense. White will be in the rotation.
Hi tarboy, you left Gabby W. out. Did you not listen to what CB said last week about Gabby. Go back and re-listen then you will add Gabby W to the list. CB just said that Gabby is the most athletic player on this team and she might be more athletic than IN from last year. She can do it all. If that is the case and she can do it all at the guard spot like IN did for us last year then common sense will say there is no way this girl is not going to be part of the rotation. I really do think that Gabby will probably me the first on off of the bench. You can call it the sixth person coming off of the bench.

During the latter part of the year, Banghart said much of the responsibility for controlling UNC's offense and tempo fell on Elina Aarnisalo. When opponents were able to take that away, scoring became more difficult.
"We felt like we needed to address that," Banghart said. "We knew we did address it in our recruiting…we have a lot more just decision makers so that we can have the ball in a lot more hands, which I think will be harder to guard."
Stanford transfer Chloe Clardy brings experience to the backcourt after graduating from Stanford in three years. Banghart described her as a shot maker with a strong basketball IQ who can also make an impact defensively.
But just as importantly, Clardy gives UNC more size and physicality at guard.
"She's a bigger guard. We needed to get sturdier and bigger, you know, in terms of our physicality," Banghart said.
Gabby White brings something different. The Chapel Hill native returns home after spending her freshman season at Virginia, adding another level of athleticism to the backcourt.
Banghart said White gives UNC something it has not consistently had: a player capable of creating an advantage simply by beating the defender in front of her.
"We haven't really had a lot of kids that can just win their matchup and she just can," Banghart said. "It doesn't matter who's on her. She can just go win her matchup, which then puts the defense in a jam."
Oklahoma State transfer Achol Akot gives UNC another option in the frontcourt. The 6-foot-1 senior can play in the post, step outside and shoot the 3 or attack off the dribble.
Banghart called Akot "a true positionless" player and pointed to her competitiveness as one of the traits that has stood out since she arrived in Chapel Hill.
"She's got a relentlessness to her," Banghart said. "She's a true positionless player; she's got really elite footwork in the low post. Kind of uses some patience and wiggle. But she can shoot the three better than what we've had at that position for a while."
Harpring arrives in Chapel Hill as the 2026 Naismith Girls' High School Player of the Year and the No. 1 player in the 2026 class by 247Sports. Her first few months at UNC have been about adjusting to the speed and level of talent in the college game.
"Yeah, honestly, I mean, like from high school to here, I feel like I did as much as I could preparing," Harpring said. "I feel like the style of play obviously is different. You're playing faster. You're playing with a lot of better players, and you're surrounded by a lot better players. So, it's definitely a change, but at the same time it's something I've been preparing for, and it's been super exciting to be a part of that."
Harpring acknowledged there is pressure that comes with entering college as the nation's No. 1 player, but said she has tried to keep her focus on basketball rather than the outside expectations.
"Yeah, for sure. There's definitely pressure there," Harpring said. "But honestly, when I feel that pressure, I'm just worried about focusing on my game. I feel like all the outside can kind of be distracting sometimes, so I really try to keep the main thing the main thing."
How all of the new pieces fit together remains a work in progress, but both Banghart and Harpring pointed to the early chemistry within the group.
"They really like one another. That's been an easy transition," Banghart said. "The transfers and new guys have added a ton to that."
Harpring has seen the same thing in a backcourt with several players capable of taking on different roles.
"Yeah. It's been great. I mean, I feel like we all bring something different to the table," Harpring said. "I feel like we all have our strengths, and that we can really build off each other, and play together well."
UNC will get its first chance to see how those pieces translate against outside competition when it hosts Davidson in an exhibition at Carmichael Arena on Oct. 18.

Hello Jriv, As I told you before I have not seen much game film on Gabby yet. But if it is all true and not just coach-speak it looks like she could be #9 with a bullet if it all pans out as true. I hope it is.
However Gabby has Kate H National Player of the Year and a healthy Reniya Kelly All ACC 2nd team her Soph ;season. That is why I am waiting to see who she beats out for PT or does she play another position. IIRC Gabby is 5'10 basically the same as India.
C Clardy will probably be serious competition for Gabby also. I just need to see her play some games before I put her in the main rotation. Same for 6'6 Blanca and Noelle B who can dunk.

Jriv thanks for the posts on the players. I loved it. We have one heck of an athletic team.
Gabby will be coming off of the bench. Kate H and RK will probably be the starters. CB stated that she likes RK at the two because of her shooting. Kate will be at the one. Then you have CC and GW coming after the bench to give both Kate and RK a break. I would think that CB will probably sub Gabby and CC in at the same time with GW at the two and CC at the one.
There is a bunch of film on Gabby. She played a ton of minutes at VA last year as a freshman. Just pull some of VA games and you should see Gabby. That is what I did.
I record all UNC WBB games on TV but UVA and Syracuse were both internet games so I do not have a recording of them. Gabby iirc averaged 5 points per game and UVA must not have played her very much.
I will see her soon enough and I hope she is the second coming of Nivar with a great shooting touch. She still has a lot of good players in front of her to pass.

Gonna be hard to keep Tasha out of the rotation. She looks in phenomenal shape. She will be very impactful this season imo.

Yes I accidentally left Taissa Q off my list she would be in my top 8. I think she will play the 4 position behind Akot but she is also one who could play multiple positions.
A player that also intrigues me is Noelle Bofia. Suppose she develops. Blocks shots, rebounds, her favorite shot is a hook shot can palm the ball and can dunk.

Maybe so. But not one word is proven. "Ball don't lie". Never has. Talk, predictions don't TRUTH. What matters is how good the best players are. Player 9-25 doesn't matter beyond practice unless somebody 1-8 gets injured. Somebody has to handle, somebody has to score, somebody has to rebound. EVERYBODY that plays more than 60 seconds has to play defense. Is it talent of coaching? Everything. See dookies.
Can they play basketball? We will see when the games start.
Time and games will tell. Nothing talked here will tell anything. The team is set. the players is set. The staff is set. All have pre-season stuff to process. There is nothing REAL for fans until games start. Anything from the past (film, HA) doesn't matter. Different time, different scenes, different wooden floor. Excited to see live play. Do bot care much to weed they what doesn't matter. The best players playing the most minutes matters. How good they present as a team with best player execution will be interesting. Preseason talk excitement is fine if enjoyed.

- Total Points: 206 points
- Total Rebounds: 114 rebounds (45 offensive, 69 defensive)

- Career Highs: She posted a spectacular breakout performance in a triple-overtime win against Wake Forest, recording a career-high 22 points and 12 rebounds. She also dished out a season-high 9 assists in a notable victory at Stanford.
Stats do not lie too. I just posted stats on Gabby White from last year at VA. She played in all 34 games as a freshman. This should tell you something. Just look at the stats below. I even put in a couple of videos. White is going to play a lot coming off of the bench. like I said. We are 10 deep now; therefore, no one on this team should be playing 40 minutes a game. CB has the talent now to put pressure on the opposing teams and she can keep the pressure on the entire game now with the depth she has now; AKA Sylvia Hatchell teams during the Ivory Latta years, etc.
So, you are telling me that you do not trust CB the HC? She stated in the interview that RK is now 100%. Go watch the video that has been posted on another thread. There is nothing to believe. If the HC is saying she is 100% ready to go then she is 100% ready to go. I cannot believe you do not trust or take the word of the HC. That is like telling a parent about their child in a parent / teacher conference and the parent is telling you that he or she knows their child. If you are married then you and your wife should know them better than anyone else because the both of you are around them 99% of the time; especially when they are 0 years old to 5 years old.
I think KH and RK will start at the one and two. I think CC and GW will come in at the same time for both Kate and RK with CC at the one and GW at the two. I can also see CB running a three guard offense during some games like Wes Moore did when he had S. Rivers, Aziaha James, and Zoe Brooks. I think that SC will play some at the two and 3 as well. The versatility for this team is going to be awesome. There are some many interchangeable parts this year will have as opposed to last year's team. It will all be about the match ups and the opponents they our team will be facing this year. This is a luxury that I know CB and Staff just cannot wait to see. These players are seasonal with plenty of college experience except for Kate, but as EM stated in field hockey, Kate is not your typical freshman. She is a super freshman. To be honest, I will not even see her as being a freshman. The more she plays the quicker she will be able to gain experience and she will be able to make the adjustments.
UNC will play 3 guard lineups. Of course that means you have to include Brooks, Burrows and Hull in the conversation: 3 players listed at guard. The issue is, UNC is 3 deep everywhere except center:

I am not arguing that White is not good enough to be an ACC rotational player. She has already proven it. And it certainly is feasible that White can move past Zubich, Barker and one or two other perimeter players to earn major rotation minutes.
I am arguing we do not know that yet: who will be grabbing those 4th, 5th and 6th perimeter rotation spots behind the likely starters Harpring, Kelly and Brooks. I think the past performance history makes Clardy, Burrows, Hull (and some Queiroz minutes) perhaps more likely than White. Just a guess.
The post will be equally hard to determine. On paper right now Toomey and Akot start, and either Thomas or Bofia will come in as a 3rd option, spelling both by playing the 5 when in the game. That is a nice 3 player rotation for 2 spots. But then again, Queiroz is pretty good too: will she play the 4 mainly?pushing Toomey or Akot to more minutes at the 5? Hard to say.

Know you at all re reliability. I been front line re Carolina bb in CH since 1965. Mostly men’s teams. But nobody tells me what to believe if I have not seen it.

Good info 3397, thanks for posting it. 3pt shooting is one of my biggest concerns. Lanie G and Elina A were shooting the 3 really well late last season until the UConn sweet 16 game. IMO, for us to be as good or better than last season we need to match that league leading 3pt shooting.% and makes.

IMO the stats represented show the outside shooting as deficient? Generally our team looks to have improved, maybe greatly. That opinion based on nothing except conjecture, "online" conversation. I just do not believe internet words and try to ignore all that. The biased to favor-ability forecasts here is as always, even last season. History says always that our best players are over-hyped here online. Anonymity provides opportunity for all sorts of over-hypo by anyone (a few constantly). So, will Toomy show what all thought she would be. This will be her 4th rodeo. I presume she will be here another as 5th year. She COULD be a crucial asset. Will Thomas be "a player", or simple be no more than a shuffler? Can she go hard? Another potentially huge difference maker. Nobody here has shown in the class of that UCLA woman last season. Nobody here is that good. But maybe several here can be regionally very good. I want a TEAM that can challenge nationally?
