It's been a banner year for Hoggard High School. Unfortunately not a lot of people from the area have been able to see it in person. This fall the Women Soccer team and Men's Lacrosse teams will be competing for a state title. The school 5th and 6th state title of the year. While Men's Soccer has been the only victors. Women's Tennis finished 2nd in Burlington (160 miles). Men's Soccer won their State Title on a Thursday night at Guilford College (176 miles). Both Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams finished Runner Up. Hoggard fans got lucky that they at least played on the same day. That being a Wednesday in Winston Salem (189 miles). The week before the state finals fans and students had to travel to Greenville (100 miles) on a Wednesday at 4 pm to watch the girls play for a Regional. This week the Girls Soccer team is playing in Durham (142 miles) the closest location. But it's on a Thursday. Boys Lacrosse got lucky they are playing on Friday. However, the start time is 2pm at Lenoir-Rhyne University (224 miles). Football, Women’s Lacrosse and Softball all lost in the Regional rounds. Over 1000 miles mostly on a school night to see teams compete for a title. Going to 8 classes was going to be tough however these games need to be spread out. UNCP, Fayetteville State, Campbell, and the triangle area all have facilities that the state needs to consider getting plugged into. The middle of the week 2pm/4pm start times are brutal. I understand these are first world problems but it's frustrating when you have great community support but when the biggest stage gets set it's almost impossible to support these kids in person.
