Anyone planning on going? Looks like a lot better weather this year (although it is going to be HOT), and a better deeper field as well.

I like Jon Vegas myself, with Chip McDaniel as a dark horse pick (he has made several cuts this year, including the US Open)

I think it is safe to say that would be pretty popular with the home crowd. Did he grow up in McCreary County? Seems like someone told me there is only one 9 hole course in the county and his family set up a net in a barn for him to practice while he was still a kid. That would be a hell of a story . . . .

Hey, who else here is going tomorrow?

If so, let’s meet up and I’ll buy the beers.

Monsoon rains last year, a heatwave this year. it is like the Golf Gods are saying KY doesn't deserve a pro golf tournament.

I mean, it’s barely a pro golf tournament. I’ll watch zero hours of that vs the 40 plus I will invest in the British.

Maybe during commercial breaks of The Open on Sunday i MIGHT peak it. But definitely not watching when The Open is on. Hope it gets to stick for years to come, good for the state and all that, but yeah, it is pretty much a Web.com or whatever they call it now, tournament.

Tell that to Troy Merritt and whomever wins this year... the 2 year exemption, points for the playoffs, Maui TOC, PGA Championship entry the next season.....pretty much web.com.

That said...this course is getting drilled. If the promoters wanted an easy course for this event, they succeeded. 23 under last year in the slop and off fairways thinner than my hair and that looks like it will be beaten easily.

Oh i get it. There is great rewards for who ever wins it. Which is exactly why the field is what it is. Guys who do not make the Open can play in a watered down field and hopefully earn exemption for the tour. It will definitely give a couple guys who have to fight every week to stay qualified a nice comfort zone knowing they are good to go. They can then go out, play relaxed and not have to worry about keeping their card or getting into the field each week.

Everybody is just killing the par 5s at Champions, if they want to toughen up the course, then they probably need to shorten one or two of them and play it as no more than a par 71. That being said, there are a whole lot of low scores on the PGA tour every week. John Deere had a weak field, and the winning score was -21, and the winner (Fritelli) was entered in the Barbasol until he won last week. These guys are good . . .

Headed over in the morning to watch. Try to watch some before the heat gets brutal.

What a joke. Nothing about that picture says "VIP", I hope they at least have named soda. But would not surprise me if they try to run out some Bubba Cola, Dr. K, Shasta, etc.

Those of you saying “no chance I’ll watch this while the open is going on” do realize that it’s daylight here for 5 more hours after that goes off, right? Cut it on for a few hours after the open today, pretty cool seeing a course you’ve played many times on tv. Won’t go out there and sweat my *** off, but will gladly watch from home.

I hope it was a combination of being hot, Thursday, and late in the day when people had maybe had enough...but watching TV coverage late yesterday evening there were like 5 people out there watching main guys like Dufner, Haas, Merritt, etc. Several of their shots into the green you couldn't spot a single fan.

I assume crowds pick up for the weekend, b/c it looked really sad & lonely out there.

Spot on.

Mid 90's tomorrow afternoon...going to be rough as a fan. The caddies...shew.

Good crowd all day. Probably a lot of folks burned out late in the afternoon.

I turned on the JV action for half an hour after the real golf ended. A couple of observations;

1. The course looks fantastic.
2. The guys are eating it’s lunch.
3. It looks hot AF out there.
4. It’s really weird watching a PGA Tour event where every guy’s projected Fedex Cup standing is in Red.

The course is fantastic. It’s better than the course that they’re playing the Open on.

I think you’re wrong about the quality of the field. Of course it’s not the best of the best, but for an opposite field event, it’s pretty damn strong.

It was hot as hell, but it’s that way most places in the States this week.

This is an important event for a lot of these players, including Major Champions like Dufner and Toms.

Let’s just celebrate the fact that this great State that we live in has a PGA Event.
