Cowguy, what is your list of passable BBQ places in OKC? I really liked Maples. Not saying it would make any best BBQ in the U.S. lists but for what we are working with in OKC I thought it was good. Heard they were opening a place in the Plaza. I'm no where near a BBQ expert though.
I liked maples a lot once and the next time it was bad. I'm really hoping brick and mortar helps consistency.
Day in and day out I think texlahoma is as good as it gets in the metro. The problem is they have really weird hours and when they're out ... they're out. I also like back door. It's had some inconsistency, but is normally pretty good. Bedlam is one of the better ones as well, but wildly inconsistent. When it's good it's really good. I'd say the same about swadleys. I've had terrific meals there and other times it's dog food. It's really hard if you aren't moving consistent amounts of meat to stay in that perfect zone. Hold it too long and it's dry. Pull it too quick and it's tough. I think that's why texlahoma is consistent, even though it's frustrating.
Kings had the best ribs I've had, in okc, in sometime. Smoked well, seasoned well and perfect doneness. The pulled pork and brisket weren't quite as good - as again I think they were too long done and got a tad dry - but the flavors were really good. They also have terrific sides. If it gets busier and they can manage meat more consistently I'll swear to them becoming really hard to get into before long.
Same customer told me about Moore's 3 star barbecue on 23rd and post road. He said it's really good. Looked it up and their cups have ou on them. Won't be patronizing.
Also heard about a new place in Moore called Blake's. Need
@mseabolt to go try it.
What I wouldn't give to have mr spriggs back.
