STOOPS ASKED ABOUT REEVALUATING drew in the bye week and he just kinda shrugged it off and dismissed it. I wonder why its not discussed more...thoughts

I don't know anything other than back issues aren't good for any of us... Whether it's through personal experience or we know about someone.... Back problems are unique... The kid will get healthy, or not, and when he does nobody knows... Lack of injury talk is HIPPA driven I suspect.... And it's none of our business would be another good reason;)

And, as poorly as SJ is playing (passing); I assume he doesn't want more pressure put on him

Back injuries are weird. Until it's time to reevaluate its hard to get a gauge for how far off you are from returning.

I've had back problem and surgery, based on the report that he had numbness in his leg, there is pressure on a nerve. This situation is very serious and hard to resolve, but sure .doesnt need the impact on a football field.

Totally agree. Would be shocked if we see him back this season

I asked for an update last week on this board and pretty much got no response. Post Vandy Stoops said Barker would NOT be reevaluated during the open week. That's good enough for me. As one who has had back issues I think it's unlikely he returns any time soon and that would be tremendously unfortunate both for Barker and UK football.

Coaches aren't going to comment on injuries unless they're minor and inconsequential. Theres really no reason to discuss a serious injury, especially if the player isn't taking questions about it. For one it forces the other team to prepare for multiple looks and to be honest if a player has professional aspirations disclosing an injury could hurt their stock. For example who was it last season that Rick Pitino torpedoed the week before the draft?

I am not a lawyer or doctor, but there are laws against releasing medical information and that could be playing into it. I know we get lots of info on alot of players when they are injured so this may be an issue he was dealing with not football related. Just a guess, but it's odd that no one is saying anything about it makes it seem like it is different than a normal football condition.

As mentioned a back issue is sort of like someone telling you you have one blade of diseased grass in your yard, now go find it. Once you find it and pull it it may reappear overnight, next week or in ten years. I lost more good workers to back injuries over my years as an employer than I did to any other injury. Young people cut down in their prime never to work again. I hope like heck the kids issue is short term and our docs are on the money because we only get one body and no one should lose use of it in their prime, its just not fair. Godspeed to the kid.

We're not hearing anything official but from bits and pieces I think it seems he may have had a herniated disk that required surgery. Is that what others are thinking as well.

The little we have heard sounds very much like this may be the case, sometimes if the disk isn't ruptured PT can help the disk return to it's normal position.

But it was said that in the Doctor's opinion that surgery
was not being considered. I hope it stays that way.

My guess is he will play fb again, maybe not this year but someday. If surgery isn't being considered then the med staff must believe the problem can be taken care of by other means. Now if they decide surgery becomes necessary, then I won't be as optimistic!

Had that happened, he wouldn't have been freely walking around the sideline during the SC game.
