Curious why the surgery is just now happening. Anyone with medical knowledge or gone through something similar have any ideas? I mean, the kids been hurt for several weeks. Why the delay?

Not unusual, give therapy a chance to heal/improve the injury. I've had back problems and fortunately thru PT and injections mine was able to heal enough to avoid surgery. But surgery was on the agenda until the very end.

Surgery should be the last option on anybody, especially the young.

The hardest diagnosis on the human body is pinpointing exactly where and what is the issue with a back injury or ailment. It is best to take a very slow and methodical treatment program in order to pin point exactly what the surgeon is going into the body to correct or even if it is necessary. Slow and methodical has proven to be the best approach. Barker will have to live with the results of this surgery for some if not all of his life.
