Only high school in the county. Could be the highest paying job if the culture changed.

I think that the biggest problem they had was their principals and administration didnt care about sports.

I also think one of those principals is now at Reidsville.

It's gotten better. Been an 11 month job for some time now. County supplement has also improved and the school system is eligible for state funding for low wealth. A bigger problem is recruiting and retaining a staff. Assistant pay is still woeful.

Brumfield did a good job and by all accounts got a raw deal. He will find another job somewhere and if BY is smart they won't schedule him. 🤣

Why did he get a raw deal?

Well, my use of the word raw was a general characterization and maybe too general as I don't have first hand knowledge as a witness. I do know a lot of people that are close to program. To a person, and as is often the case in these situations, most people feel there was a personality conflict between Brumfield and the principal. It shouldn't come down to something like that but unfortunately it often does. The losers end up being the kids.

There were some issues with at least one assistant and every coach has his critics but there was nothing going on that should have resulted in his dismissal. Evidence of that is the fact that he is being allowed to stay on as a teacher. I don't think he will stay there long though.

In 6 seasons, including a Covid year, Brumfield won over 30 games. Averaging 5 wins+ per year at BY is not easy. BY has always had some athletes but the Bucs haven't had any tradition and they didn't always play hard. Brumfield's teams played hard. Being so rural numbers have always been a bit of an issue. Attrition over the course of a season was not something they could afford. Brumfield managed to keep kids interested and motivated. Of course winning helps with this.

Many in the community feel they have lost a good coach. I think it's safe to say he was a good fit and I think it will be difficult for the admin to replace him. Only time will tell and we wish coach B and the program the best.

He is still on the teaching staff. I believe he has a farm not too far across the state line in Virginia. I'm sure he is applying for anything nearby.

The principal dynamic is one many overlook. I know an assistant that is beloved by every head coach he has served. But I told him long ago, the coach may love you, but you work for the principal. 8-3 is just as important as 7-10 on Friday night.
