Gotta wonder what the young man thought of the way we have used our pitchers.

The major league draft is then biggest decommitter in college athletics. It has ruined more classes than any one or two players decommitting.

Yes but any high school player good enough to be a high draft selection would be a fool to not go professional. (Although every now and then someone does choose to go the college route.)

Big discussion on the IF regarding this. A poster on the IF who supposedly knows his family thinks he is headed to Coastal or Francis Marion. Throws an 88 mph fastball. Grew up a Clemson fan and his dad is a Clemson alumnus.

It sux that after we won two college World Series we didn’t have stellar recruiting to keep it going and Ray should’ve stayed longer as the baseball coach as well!!
Holbrooke recruited players who played small ball....much different than the gorilla-ball player that Tanner liked. Holbrooke simply changed the DNA of the program.

Tanner was gone regardless. He was tired of coaching.

We did actually upgrade in talent. We had a ton of guys drafted it seems like. Tanners CWS teams weren’t the most talented…they were just gritty baseball players who played the game right. Of course we had some solid players…you have to. But even a guy like Whit Merrifield wasn’t supposed to have the kind of success as a pro as he has. Dude just got it done at every level. It was always interesting to me that Coastal won the CWS soon after…leaving me wondering if some of those kind of players would’ve been at SC under Tanner.

We have talented guys that do a lot of the little things poorly and aren’t being coached / developed.

The players can’t handle the big moments. They looked like Dixie Youth wannabes throwing the ball away on the bunt this afternoon. LSU handled the big moments. When the game was on the line they came through. It’s about coaching and preparation.
