One of my favorite youth sports stories. I was decent at baseball, I received a partial scholarship offer to Marietta College. I played second base usually. We had a double elimination tournament in Pony League. The second game, we had absolutely no pitchers. The one guy that we had eligible was sick, out of town, something.

Coach asked if anyone had any pitching experience. I hadn't pitched since the first age division, but raised my hand. Another guy did too, but coach picked me to start the game. Backstory: The big pitcher on the team we were facing hit me with a pitch the first game. I stared him down walking to first, he just grinned.

So now it was my turn. I didn't have a super fast pitch, but I could aim well. I did well first inning, 3 up 3 down, 1 or 2 strikeouts. 2nd inning, he batted fourth, so I got my nemesis on the first batter. I toyed with him to get him to 2 and 2, with inside and outside pitches. He got in the box, I got on the mound, and I just grinned, one ear to the other. You see, I hadn't shown my curve ball at all. It hurt my arm like crap to throw it, but it'd break nastily. I threw it almost aimed directly at his head. No lie, he dives out of the box, thinking I was throwing at him. But it breaks and catches the plate for strike 3. I waved bye to him as he walked back in the dugout. That is probably my best baseball moment ever. I made it three innings before I wore out.

I once gave up two grandslams in the same inning.....to the same batter. #cyyoung

I was late for opening day game--my dad ran errands and was late getting home. I was supposed to be pitching but they wrote in the catcher for opening day. I was the third best pitcher but it was the matchup that made me opening day pitcher. The coach didn't want to change his rotation. So I caught that game. The kid became our ace that day and I never pitched again.
