Thank goodness for Marlatt, hope we've got a few others like him in the pen.

Man ITG did a great job with the morning show yesterday, Mainieri, Tanner, Toman, Drew Myer, Blake Cooper, Mike Cisco (I think) and Justin Smoak off the top of my head, some great stories. Toman is a hoot!

Somewhat easy sweep. Interesting team this year. Just an educated guess on my part:

Defense will be adequate if not good.
Offense similar. I think Mainieri is willing to adjust to the conditions, and do what's needed to get runs in.
Pitching - We will rise or fall with the pitching. It's pretty impressive that Mainieri expects the pitchers to expand their repertoire of pitches and they're doing it.

I don't think we'll be a supers team this year, but a regional host should be reachable.

We've got to stay healthy.

The major reason we won the national titles in 2011 & 2012 was because overall we were healthy.

We get it. You don't care about baseball. Here's an idea. Don't make smartass football comments in a baseball thread.

Here's another idea, if you don't like it, you don't have to reply. Works both ways.

By the way, I don't care about baseball. Would scrap the entire program if the money could be spent on some more football players.

Please pass that on to your board committee to determine if its allowed on this thread. I'll breathlessly await their opinion.

(I do hope this has reached your smart-*** threshold, as I really worked hard on it )

Don't you mean spring training? That's generally the term people use for baseball.

That is, unless they want to misunderstand something on purpose. And then do it again a second time.
This is a baseball thread.

You think we could be good enough to be a 1-seed and host a regional but not win that regional? Forgive me if I’m misunderstanding, but isn’t that what you mean by a “supers team”?

Way too early, but what I meant was ...

Good enough to host a regional because I think we can be inside the top 15-20, and we have a facilities advantage, but not a top ten team to be in contention to be a super host.

Short version: we're not going to be good enough to host a super. I do think we could reach a super.

I may be overly optimistic. :)

Ahh optimism, a novel concept and I think that would be a very good season for this team! I think we will have to do all the little things very well to reach a super, but I could see it!

We definitely have a facilities advantage, which is why we hosted as a two-seed in a regional a couple of years ago.

Jerzembec (sorry if misspelled) is out for the year. That's a blow to our pitching staff. Guys are going to have to step up.

Kimball didn't come through last year, but he's definitely got talent, hopefully he'll be a good one this year.

I have two tickets to tomorrows game if anyone wants them. Just PM my Ticketmaster info and I can transfer them to you. Sadly I am going to be busy finishing up a fence at the house.

That was because of Covid restrictions in place in 2021, moreso than our facilities. The 1 seed, ODU, didn't even put in a bid that year.
Without the restrictions we are on the road.

If I recall correctly, ODU's home field was not up to snuff. And nearby Harbor Park, home of the AAA Norfolk Todes, was unavailable.

That wasn’t why they didn’t put in a bid. They didn’t expect to even be in the position they were in that season, and the bids had to be in much earlier than normal. Also Covid regulations within the state of VA all but prohibited it at the time, which is why UVA didn’t put one in either.
We had a bunch of ODU officials tailgating with us that weekend and we talked about it. They could have made it work with the Tides, if that had been an option.

Thanks for clarifying. We can always count on you to set all of us straight. :giggle:

And thus, the deadline to put in a hosting bid is on the USC AD's calendar each year.

Is there a (non-refundable) fee a school submits with the bid? I guess schools who don't normally have any expectactions of being a hosting seed bother to submit a bid.

I’m sure the deadline is on their calendar too. We just have to remember that 2021 was a season under very special circumstances. In a normal season I’m sure ODU would have worked out an arrangement with the Tides.
As mentioned, I only know this specific situation because of folks who came over and tailgated with us that weekend before we were eliminated. We then hung around with them after for the remaining games. They were good, fun folks.
