Since he's a coach's son, is he required to be on scholarship? I thought I remembered there being some rule about that or something. I may be just making it all up in my head. In any event, if he earned a scholly at Michigan State I'm sure he's deserving of one here.

Yeah they made a pretty big deal out of Bryce "giving up his scholarship" for his final year at UCLA to make room for another recruit. It was as if he was going to have to wait tables at a local pub to scrape together enough tuition money to stay on the team.

Yea. I recall a similar narrative about McDermott. “Such a sacrifice” and blah blah blah. When it should really be viewed more like the team cheating than sacrifice...

The issue is that if he takes the tuition exemption that the school offers for employees, that counts as a scholarship against the basketball team. So whether the coach pays full price or he’s on scholarship. Or at least counts as a scholarship.

FYI this is not the son who was at Michigan State. This is the son who is a current senior at Lincoln Pius. He can walk on.

point being, he couldn't take any money other than his dad's paycheck to pay for school or it would count as a basketball scholarship. So either Doug, Grant or someone else was going to be without a scholarship.
