Batavia fans, wondering about your thoughts on the team this year. Just moved from the northern suburbs and was able to see them play for the first time live against South Elgin. Doesn't seem like a typical Batavia team from years past (as far as from what I've read on them).

I have been watching Batavia for several years now (name gives it away) and I would say that this years team is not unlike previous teams. Offensively the team had an inexperienced line starting the season, but pretty big, average 6-3 265. We returned all the key skill guys on offense, QB, RB, 2 WR and TE and some new guys filling in nicely as well. So far the offense looks balanced and explosive at times. The O-line, although inexperienced to start, has done an excellent job and is getting better every game. Defensively, the team has a ton of speed in every position, but also had inexperience at the line. The key returners look solid (MLB, SS, CB) and we have filled in nicely at the other positions. Batavia has always had a balanced offense and a fast defense with speed at every position, including D-line. This year is pretty much the same, with maybe a potentially more explosive offense than usual. Batavia has beat two pretty solid teams already. Oswego was very solid, and I expect they wont lose many more games and make a good run at the playoffs. South Elgin is very athletic and will most likely compete for Upstate 8 Valley championship and make the play-offs. Hope that helps answer your question.

This Batavia team is a lot like the 2013 6A championship team. Playmakers on offense (Niemiec and Coffey are among the top QB/WR combos in state (75 catches, 1060 yards and 10 TD - and Garrett can pound it on the ground); and a solid defense that improves every week. To beat them you better keep their offense off the field.
