Last year it seemed like they basically went by OBP, highest to lowest...which made for some unconventional, mens softball type lineups...we will see, so many new names its hard to make a guess for me.

With the names I know, your lineup looks traditional and solid. I like it.

I think we're going to see a whole lot of mixing the first several weeks. There are a lot of good players and a lot of them are JUCO players that will need to see time sooner rather than later.

What is interesting is that we have a ton of what should be quality backups. That wasn't the case as much last year. This year we have Ryan Shinn and Cam Hill who should be able to play almost anywhere in the outfield at a high level. In the infield we have Troy Black and Alex Rodriguez who could both play second and third, and Rodriguez could play short. We also have Grant Macchiochi who is coming off an injury, but he is a two way guy that I think could basically be a utility player and play anywhere, but is a righty pitcher that was at Missouri and also plays middle infield. We also have more catcher/first base combos than I thought possible. We could conceivably rotate Cottam, Collette, and Squires at those positions and keep them fresh.

One interesting part of this is also what kind of a change, if any, will we have in our batting average? Many times hitters are improved because of who hits around them. They see better pitching because pitchers fear the power or the hitting ability of someone that hits before or after them. Will the loss of White, Reks, and Mahan have an impact throughout, or will there be little to no drop off? Specifically, will guys like Becker be able to hit in the .280s, or better, or will he, and others, have a drop off?

All leading up to me being very excited. Still, I think the lineup that you built is probably about right. There could be some shuffling to that... maybe you hit Pompey second and Johnson third and then have Becker further down. You could also bump Heyer a bit if he has a hot bat. Still, I think that is probably pretty close to what it will be.

Like was mentioned, I think there are to many unknowns to feel certain but what the op has is as good a guess as I would have. I could see Pompey hitting second or Collett hitting fourth and different moves, especially with the Juco guys. Here is to hoping someone has a Ryan Strieby type impact from the Juco ranks.

I'll take a guess:

LF Pompey
CF Aklinski
2B Becker
1B Cottam
DH Collett
3B Heyer
RF Johnson
SS Dawson
C Squires

One interesting thing I saw at Friday's scrimmage was Becker batting left handed against Shaenzer, a lefty. He has been a switch-hitter since he's been here. Don't know if he'll hit exclusively from the left side or if he was experimenting.

Also, Collett hit a bomb off of Maley that reminded me of the way AJ hit 'em.

Not a bad effort. You were fairly close.

Will Collett stay in the lineup if he continues to put up 0's? What is the deal with him? I hear more good things than I ever see. Is he just pressing when he gets in there? For a guy whose calling card is hitting, we need to read the fine print.

Collett is a power hitter and unfortunately there's good and bad with that. Plus, he's only played in 21 games with 40 or so at bats. Hell get going.

Well, his first at bat looked like all the others I've seen. Like he is thinking too hard and deciding late.

My video is buffering so badly it is hard to make much sense out of what is happening. It fast forwarded an inning and a half so I missed Collett's 2nd strike out.

Thompson four walks in the inning. Definitely going to have to get the bats going. 0-3 Upstate.

Turned off my VPN software that wasn't even supposed to be active and sped up my video. Wish I hadn't. Aklinski boots an outfield single assuring an additional run. 5-0 and we finally get out of the inning. Not playing well in the field but the field is in pretty sad condition. We can't have so many bad at bats now.
