If their merger is approved.

Trump has the "bully pulpit." It was called jawboning when JFK was President. It works. If Trump's focus is on jobs, companies will react because they know Trump can reach their customers. And if Trump calls out a company for moving jobs, their customers may react negatively. They know that government regulates businesses and they want to stay on the good side of the regulators, in all administrations.

And Trump's repatriation plan will eliminate the need for corporate inversions. Plus we get around $300B in new tax revenue and the companies stay headquartered in the U.S.

This is the first corporate merger that creates jobs? Did Monsanto just cancel the elimination of the 3,000 jobs thus "creating" 3,000 jobs? Keeping the corporate offices is not news. Where does the $300B number come from? R&D spending will go down by billions, both companies spent $5.9B combined in 2015 while the combined companies will spend $16B over 6 years, $2.67B/year. That's if the merger is approved. You sound like Trump's press sec'y with your breathless posting of each questionable announcement. Lots of deals that had already been decided and promises that may or may not be fulfilled. It will all be tracked by the big indices, unemployment rate, GDP growth, etc.

The question becomes what is "Trump" promising. Carrier took Trump to the cleaners.

Indiana put up the money. I doubt that anybody has gotten taken to the cleaners as much as the american taxpayer over the last 8 years.

You're just very very bitter because Obama did not focus on jobs. Their commitment of an $8 billion investment sounds pretty big to me. As do the promise of 3000 new jobs created. And we have a proximally $3 trillion worth of overseas profits. Trump has proposed a 10% fee to repatriate those funds. Do the math.

Very, very misinformed on your part. Trump could promise carrier nothing. The state of Indiana put up the money. And $10,000 per job does not sound like a bad deal to me. Certainly a lot better than we got from the $500 billion loss on Solyndra, under Obama. or is it only crony capitalism when a GOP official does it?

I can't say I blame you for dodging all of my questions on this BS announcement since, as usual you were taken in by it. Then adding on your BS $300B wishful thinking that has nothing to do with the thread. We all be lucky if 5% of Trump's promises ever happen, keep dreaming though.

Trump does not have a press secretary. He has a propaganda minister. Vladimir has taught him well.

Not defending it but millions?, billions?, what's it matter huh? it was millions btw. typical

My mistake, I knew it was millions and still put in billions. I did not do it intentionally. But as you point out it is still a big number. Again my question is it only crony capitalism when a conservative does it?

First of all, many corporate mergers involve staffing reductions, it's called taking advantage of synergies and overlap. Secondly, the CEO promised 3000 new American jobs. Why does that bother you? A question for you. Are you involved in business and do you have an M and A background? Job reductions after a merger are extremely common place.

In the article is not clear on the promised $8 billion investment and how that relates to their original plans. If Trump only keeps 15% of his promises, that is about 14 1/2% better than Obama.

Of course mergers eliminate jobs that is why I was questioning the creation of one job much less 3,000. Also the article mentions that they were going to eliminate 3,000 jobs but miraculously they are now "creating" 3,000 jobs. If the proposed merger merely saves (which would be good if true) 3,000 jobs then they aren't new jobs. The decrease in billions$ in R&D spending will certainly eliminate many well paying jobs. You admit yourself and I fully expect that should this merger take place that there will be a net loss of jobs as there nearly always are with mergers but Trump got to tweet about this very sketchy, short on details announcement and he probably thinks that everyone is impressed. I believe that corporations are just playing Trump now with these announcements and I doubt that Trump cares one bit because few make it past the headlines to inquire about what's really going on.

Bayer is a German company and Monsanto a U.S. company. They said:

© TheStreet Bayer Beats Estimates as Drugs Gain While Crops StallBayer AG and Monsanto Co. promised President-elect Donald Trump $8 billion of investment in the U.S. and thousands of new jobs should the companies’ planned merger, the biggest-ever in agriculture, clear regulatory approvals.

Bayer Chief Executive Officer Werner Baumann promised to add 3,000 jobs at Monsanto while keeping its headquarters in St. Louis after the deal is completed, Trump spokesman Sean Spicer said Tuesday.

The Bayer CEO promises to ADD 3,000 jobs at Monsanto (perhaps Bayer is cutting German jobs, I don't know). They also promised $8B in US investment. Maybe they cut German investment, I don't know.

I'm not sure why you are fighting this. This seems like good news. Are you that ideological that you can't acknowledge this because Trump is involved? I suspect the 3,000 new US hires won't care very much.

I can explain it to you a third time or you can go back and read my first two statements, it's all there.

You questioned how it would be possible to create 3000 American jobs. You questioned how is this possible to increase US spending by $8 billion as promised by the CEO.

I gave you possible answers since the press release did not describe them in detail. So either you are calling the CEO a liar or you have no leg to stand on. He is either going to create 3000 US jobs as he promised or he is a liar. He Is going to increase investment in the US by $8 billion or he is not and if he doesn't he is a liar. They currently spend about 6 billion on R&D and he is committed to increase that to 16 billion. Perhaps eight of the 10 billion is in the US. Who knows.

Again, not sure why liberals like you are so upset at all the CEOs announcing job creation in the United States. It makes you look petty and small and just a little bit jealous.
