That's actually a brilliant idea!!
I floated the idea of tanking ever couple yrs then pushing all your chips in on a title. Can u imagine the talent a team could get with a good recruiter and our budget carried over 2-3 yrs?

Yeah we'd lose the all-time wins but that'll probably happen inevitably anyway. Get them chips!!!

Need a starting center, Moreno is not it. We should tamper and get Cyril.
And you are way wrong.

Moreno will likely be better than Cyril.
Cyril 1st 2 years (per game stats ==> per30min stats):
FR: 4.6pt, 3.8reb, 1.5blk, 0.2stl, 0.5ast, 2.1F, 62.6%fg, 48.8%ft ==> 9.8pt, 8.1reb, 3.2blk, 0.4stl, 1.1 ast, 4.5F
Soph: 9.6, 5.6reb, 2.3blk, 0.6 stl, 0.6 ast, 3.0F, 76.4%fg, 57.8%ft ==> 13.4pt, 7.8reb, 3.2blk, 0.8stl, 0.8ast, 4.2F

Moreno
FR: 8.0pr, 6.4reb, 1.6blk, 0.6stl, 2.2ast, 2.1F, 58.3%fg, 70.3%ft ==> 10.5pt, 8.3reb, 2.0blk, 0.8stl, 2.5ast, 2.7F

So, Moreno was better in all areas (even after adjusting for minutes) except Blocks their FR year.
No reason to think he won't also be better their Soph year.

I think Moreno can be all-SEC 2nd team next year,

This dude, in 4 seasons, played 1 game against a P4/P5 team, Kansas State. He played 1 minute. Impressive shooting numbers against mediocre at best competition. He also sucks defensively.

Not every random transfer, just because he can score a few points, is worthy of a UK jersey. This dude certainly isn't. MVC POTY, meh. He didn't do anything against anyone of note.

My personal pre-requisites (not that Pope & staff will ask me), but also if you far excel in some area, that can make up slightly for another area:

PG - has to make at least 34% from 3 (so not someone you dare to shoot 3's) making 1.0+/gm;
a STL/TO rate close to 1 or better (no worse than 0.75);
score 14+ for mid-major, or 10+ for P5;
prefer all-1st team defense in his conference;
at least 6'0, prefer 6'2+;

SG - 40% from 3, making 2.0+/gm;
score 16+ for mid-major, or 12+ for P5;
at least 6'3, prefer 6'5

SF - 37% from 3, making 1.5+/gm;
score 15+ for mid-major, or 11+ for P5;
at least 5reb/gm;
above average defender;
at least 6'6, prefer 6'7;

PF - make at least 34% from 3 making 1.0+/gm, OR... get 9+ Reb/gm;
get 8+reb/gm for mid-major, or 6+ for P5;
score 14+ for mid-major, or 11+ for P5;
at least 6'8, prefer 6'9

C - at least 6'10, prefer 6'11+, but not be super thin Iike 210 lbs
at least 1.5 Blk/gm, prefer 2.0+;
prefer all-1st team defense in his conference;
score 10+/gm mid-major, or 8+/gm P5;
rebound 9+/gm mid-major, or 7+/gm P5;
bonus if can make 30%+ from 3

Lastly, a LOT of names will be out there on the portal, maybe even a lot of qualified candidates for UK. But not only can you not get all of them, you don't want all of them, you will only have 4-10 spots. So you have to be selective (so you don't miss out on a better one yet to come), but at the same time not so selective (that you are left picking from scraps at the end).

Can Nike actually deliver us something?

I actually got to thinking about this the other night. Not that UK would make or break Nike but we are a big brand for them. You would think they would want to kick some talent out way to keep us relevant if Pope can’t recruit. I just don’t know. I do know there is shady dealings with shoe companies but how much they weigh in is higher than my knowledge of it.

Can't wait to count on a bunch of mid major nobodies to bring Kentucky back to prominence.
Yeah, a team like this would really suck: Bennett Stirtz, Donovan Dent, Yaxel Lindeborg, Matas Vokeitatus, Chas Lanier, Xeke Mayo, PJ Haggarty, Lamont Butler, Ja'cobi Gillespi, Sion James, Koby Brea, JT Toppin, Keyshawn Hall, Joshua Jefferson, Vladislav Golden, Amari Williams, Max Abmas, Walter Clayton, Grant Nelson, Daulton Knecht, Antonio Reeves, Grady, Darrion Williams, Graham Ike

This guy would be a strong signal
Pope is desperate and next season will be an uphill battle . Land this guy and bring back Lowe that’s playing with fire. Lowe has to accept a backup job after this extensive injury.. he isn’t the guy to win a lot of games for us. And harts connections are weak. None of them have connections where they need them.
If there is any truth to getting Prince as GM, I think we can start to move the needle in recruiting. That wouldn't be his main job, however he is well thought of and could influence players to come to UK.

Is that a pipe dream? Maybe, but Pope definitely needs help.

Potential IMO (will be more once portal opens)
4/5
Tomislav Buljan
Blake Buchanan
Armani Mighty
Thomas Dowd
Keanu Dawes
Izaiyah Nelson
Dylan Faulkner

Wings
Brandon Benjamin
Juke Harris
Darin Smith Jr
Tylik Weeks
TJ Johnson

Guards
Teagan Moore
Kameron Taylor
Rowan Brumbaugh
Cameron Carr
Nolan Minnessale
Carson Johnson
Colby Garland
Corey Hadnot II

There will be more who are unhappy at the power 4 teams. All of the above I believe will enter the portal or are available to take for the right money.
I’ve seen Armani Mighty play a lot as my daughter cheers at Mercer. He’s really good. He’s thin so not sure he would work as an SEC center but who knows. He is definitely athletic as they come. He can fly. Free throw shooting is not his strength. He’s good around the rim. On a side note Brady Shoulders is on that team as well.

For 2026, top international basketball prospects include elite draft candidates and rising stars with NBA potential. Key names to watch for the 2026 NBA Draft include Karim Lopez (New Zealand Breakers), Dash Daniels (Melbourne United), Miikka Muurinen (Partizan Belgrade), and Luigi Suigo (BC Mega MIS). These players are considered top international prospects.

Top 2026 International Prospects
  • Karim Lopez (SF, 2007, New Zealand Breakers): Widely considered one of the best, if not the best, international prospects in his draft class, with potential to be a top-10 pick.
  • Dash Daniels (SG, Melbourne United): A high-upside guard prospect with early NBL experience.
  • Miikka Muurinen (PF, Partizan Belgrade): A 6-10 forward noted for his shooting and athleticism, sometimes projected for 2027 but eligible for 2026.
  • Luigi Suigo (C, BC Mega MIS): A 7-2 center with significant size.
  • Nikola Kusturica (SG, Barcelona): A lanky guard from Serbia with a strong shooting and passing game, eligible for the 2028 draft.
Other Potential 2026 International Stars
  • Adam Atamna (G, ASVEL): A talented prospect in the French system.
  • Dame Sarr (Duke) & Luka Bogavac (North Carolina): Highlighted as part of a strong contingent of incoming international players transitioning to the college basketball scene for the 2025-26 season.
The 2026 international field is marked by versatile, big guards and athletic forwards who have gained experience in professional leagues, such as the NBL and European systems, before potentially moving to the NBA.
Muurinen and Lopez make us a national championship contender

Some of these early entrants already know where they are going from tampering during the season. Our staff will get a list together eventually.

We will pull some guys from the portal but they will be guys like the movie Major League, guys with issues that nobody knows and they all average around 7-8 points and 5 rebounds
It's hard to win BIGTIME with 7/5 guys ... unfortunately, as most here already know.
