As a long time Blues fan this is a terrible loss. Even late into his 80s he continued to tour and record and entertain his fans. I had the great fortune of seeing him live on two occasions. A master performer.

An American institution.

He will be sorely missed. RIP!

I always enjoy these threads but this sucks. People who didn't like blues liked King. I don't think there will be any filling his shoes at least as far as being an ambassador for blues.

Saw him about 5 years ago and glad I did. The 3 Kings are now together playing the blues and everyone else is sitting back and watching. You could make a strong argument that Albert, BB, Freddie and Chuck Berry pretty much influenced every guitarist in blues and rock you can name. Pretty good company.

BB was a legend. His style, unlike so many of today's guitarists, was built around the emotional content of each single note. He said he used to try to make his guitar sound like a person's voice and give it that emotional feel. He was very successful at accomplishing that sound. His brilliance will continue to influence future guitar players for many years.

Sad. He was definitely one of the first entry points that you go through to start listening to the blues. Who here doesnt know who Lucille is?

Thrill is gone
The thrill is gone away
The thrill is gone, baby
The thrill is gone away
You know you done me wrong, baby
And you'll be sorry someday

You know I'm free, free now, baby
I'm free from your spell
Oh, I'm free, free, free now
I'm free from your spell
And now that it's all over
All I can do is wish you well

I saw him at Ryman a few years ago. You gotta wonder about the future of the genre. Buddy Guy is alive, but the greats are all gone

Just a sad, sad, sad day for me. Of course, the King has earned his rest, but man, I'm gonna miss him.

His guitar playing is what he's known for (and rightfully so), but his voice had so much power... it would just stop you in your tracks.

Clearly one of the alltime greats; I'm thankful to have seen him live.

Simply one of the best small forwards ever. A truly unstoppable force pre-ACL blow-out, still other-worldly post-ACL.

All hail the King.

Saw him at the Louisville palace back in 2003. I decided to go back then because I didn't think he'd be around much longer but he made it another 12 years.

One of the greatest of all time.
