What’s the story behind this guy since he’s apparently just been hired. I’ve heard multiple people say he had a hand in selecting guys in Pope’s first portal class. But at the same time, is this guy good enough to be at Kentucky or is he just another one of Pope’s BYU buddies?

“Somebody that can model for us 24/7. They can do salary cap models, they can do win share models, they can do comparison research in terms of us trying to get as deep into the details of managing this spring’s roster construction as we can,” he said. “It’s really important to have somebody that, literally 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is going to be just war gaming and modeling over and over and over again. We’re excited to have that position. It’s really going to help us as a staff [to] collect information.”

This guy must have gotten a bag to come here for one year. I can even see Pope paying a war chest just to get Stokes to make BBN happy but it’s not gonna help. You can’t get rid of Popes warts that easily.
Pope will have to change his entire coaching and recruiting strategies to make it at Kentucky. And with that last coaching show, I’m not sure if that’s what he plans on doing. He seems pretty set in his ways.

Pilgrim calls the hire a home run. I don’t see home run here. Former BYU buddy.

Previous Experience: Most recently, he was the head video coordinator for the Wisconsin Herd, the Milwaukee Bucks' G League affiliate.
BYU Tenure: Brown spent five seasons on Mark Pope’s staff at BYU, where his duties included video, analytics, in-game strategy, NIL cap management, and transfer portal management, notes KSR

At this point, I'm willing to let Pope try just about anything to salvage his UK coaching career.
That’s where I’m at too and if it’s true that he helped with the first portal class then shows a lot for me. Cuz he obviously has been around Pope long enough to identify the right players to fit Popes style of play. And Pope has to get back to what he knows on O and that’s the zoom action. Imo that’s his best chance at having a really good season next year and being able to maintain his job at UK. The first team compared to this past season team was light years different minus the injuries haha

Does Pope only hire his buddies or former staff members? Why not just hire the most qualified people for the job? At this point it's whatever either turn or around or drive it further into the ground. With the sweet.16 automatic contract extension thing, he's likely never leaving, so long as he reaches the sweet 16 every now and then. New AD needs renegotiate and remove that auto extension immediately.

Hiring Yes Men ain't gonna do it. .

Also, Stokes is now picking between KU and Arky.

Pope will be gone by January at this rate.
I don’t think that Stokes news is true. Came from a fake Twitter account. But it wouldn’t surprise me, especially if Hart is gone.

I know they aren’t presenting it this way officially but to me it feels very interim GM ish until they hire someone in the coming weeks/months.

You know how NFL front offices have a scout background GM and then a cap guy assistant GM type? Flip it here. The eventual GM will be the cap/money/agent guy and the assistant will be more the scouting/analytics guy and that’s Keegan imo

Not vouching for any of the above, just my read on the situation.

What does a director of player development do? I thought the coaches did the player development?

The biggest concern is if Pope is hiring anyone, it must mean he is for sure our coach next year. He would not be hiring anyone if he had any thoughts of resigning.
Anyone who watched the coaching show would know that the man will not leave, even if it destroys Kentucky basketball in the process. Our only hope that he leaves is if he does poorly enough next season that the new AD kicks his a** out of the state of Kentucky.

Frankly, I figure it’s inevitable. There’s no way he ends up higher than 5th in the SEC. Even the most evangelical of the Pope Cult won’t be able to defend a man who has been a middle-of-the-road SEC team 3 straight years.
