Pilgrim calls the hire a home run. I don’t see home run here. Former BYU buddy.

Previous Experience: Most recently, he was the head video coordinator for the Wisconsin Herd, the Milwaukee Bucks' G League affiliate.
BYU Tenure: Brown spent five seasons on Mark Pope’s staff at BYU, where his duties included video, analytics, in-game strategy, NIL cap management, and transfer portal management, notes KSR
Pilgrim calls everyone a "home run hire." He's nothing but a fanboy. 40-0!!!!

This dude knows what type of players fit into the offensive schemes that Pope runs, he definitely won't be recommending the players we signed from the portal in year 2. Having said all of this, I hope he chooses guys that can play defense also, Pope needs a DC other than Mark Fox, he shouldn't need one considering he learned to play defense under Pitino but for whatever reasons, he puts more emphasis on scoring.

That’s where I’m at too and if it’s true that he helped with the first portal class then shows a lot for me. Cuz he obviously has been around Pope long enough to identify the right players to fit Popes style of play. And Pope has to get back to what he knows on O and that’s the zoom action. Imo that’s his best chance at having a really good season next year and being able to maintain his job at UK. The first team compared to this past season team was light years different minus the injuries haha
Having shooters, good passers & a cutter like Jaxson Robinson would go a long way.

“Somebody that can model for us 24/7. They can do salary cap models, they can do win share models, they can do comparison research in terms of us trying to get as deep into the details of managing this spring’s roster construction as we can,” he said. “It’s really important to have somebody that, literally 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is going to be just war gaming and modeling over and over and over again. We’re excited to have that position. It’s really going to help us as a staff [to] collect information.”
Blah blah! Can he evaluate talent and help get them here.

He has to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? That's not even physically possible.

Ok, by now I should just be able to overlook this kind of hyperbole, but come on man "literally 24 hours a day, seven days a week." Is constant overstatement always necessary to try to convey a point?

He’s a yes man and the video coordinator for a g league team. Doesn’t seem to be the savior of the program.

Who knows. But it should be important to remember that Pope has only had two seasons out of his illustrious 11 year career with fewer than 10 losses. One guy probably isn’t going to change anything.

Could you imagine a championship-level coach saying this:

“This is a piece that’s going to make a big difference for us in our information gathering and our analysis of data. It’s going to be massively important for us to make the best educated guesses that we can.”

Hey its a start! Im actually very pleased to see this get done so soon. I was worried we wouldnt get a GM or an AD for months.

This is probably the best news in a long time coming. It also means that this position is now here to stay. If Pope gets fired, then this guy either stays, or we replace him.. but either way, its a position we very likely will now have for good.

We still don't have either of the positions you mentioned. This guy is NOT a GM.

It’s just another Cody Fueger. Meaningless buddy hire mark pope either doesn’t learn or he flat out can’t get quality guys to come in. Pope is quickly becoming an enemy of this place. We essentially got old stuck in his ways Calipari without the F bombs or the abilities he did have. And Barnhart got a promotion for this. It’s unbelievable. Even more unbelievable anyone still says “give him 3” or actually supports him at all. Guys a Joke.

Talk about "dead man walking." So this "video coordinator" has approximately a month to evaluate all portal possibilities to make us even remotely resemble CATS of old. Let's hope this deal was done for a while and was just awaiting the final word. Otherwise, a bit behind again.......

Sure, but isnt this effectively the GM by another name? Or its at least our version of that position.

Either way, its a win IMO because it shows that we are hiring the staff that will be needed to build a basketball team.

Supposedly he's been evaluating for a while now because Pope knew this was happening, it was also said that he pretty much hand picked the team the 1st year or had a big part in choosing it. Impressive in 1.5 months last year if so. The very 1st article I read on Keegan Brown weeks ago when he 1st got mentioned, it said that he excels at putting the right players into Pope's system & will search every corner of the globe for players, I for one would be happy with a few euro wings that can shoot the lights out, play defense & rebound.

I mean, Pope was never going to lose fewer than 10 games or be in the top 4 in the SEC standings regardless of what he does next year. The man could bring in Rick Pitino as associate head coach to teach him the ropes and he’d still lose too many games.

Can't be a loss, but no, it is not the GM or our vision of it.

As far as top high school talent, I don’t think we will ever see it here while Pope is in charge. He almost said as much last night when Leach asked about high school recruits.
So this guy might be able to evaluate lower tier players out of high school so we will see

Euros, for the most part, don't play D. That style of play also doesn't seem to translate into the SEC for sure. Time will tell.

If he helped with the first portal class then get him here yesterday. That team played with purpose and had heart.
Against Ohio St in MSG? Against Ark in Rupp? Against Auburn in Rupp? How about the Clemson game? Or at Vandy?

Not to mention the meltdowns in the SEC against Alabama then against Tennessee in the S16 game.

That kind of purpose and heart?

And those guys had all been coached before they got here.

How many starters were injured all year long? And yeah they had a couple let down games…they aren’t ******* robots! You can’t deny the first year team played like an actual team !! How many big time wins did we have that year?? Use your brain bub

And I seem to remember that we got down double digits multiple games last season also

At this point, I'm willing to let Pope try just about anything to salvage his UK coaching career.
He should try quitting if he wants to salvage what little is left of his legacy from winning a title as a player here. Next year is looking like it'll be even worse, and at that point he's likely out of Kentucky's good graces forever.

They usually shoot the 3 ball well which if baffling because Jelavic doesn't, he was only 31% over there before he got here, he may have shot worse than that this season.

Exactly, Jaxson Robinson didn't even play in the sweet 16 game & at that point, Butler's shoulder brace was so big he could hardly do anything.
