NU held their annual Navy Seal beach workout today. Hopefully if Vic is healthy enough to go through that he is going to be ready for the hoops season. They seem to be featuring him as the face of the program this season, which he deserves IMHO.

Ya know what this makes me think about?

I was a two sport guy in high school....soccer and basketball. We lifted for both sports.

When I graduated I weighed about 170 soaking wet....about 160 of that was in my Adam's apple.

Gaines and Kopp look like they are lineman/linebackers. Turner and Taylor look like tight ends. Greer looks like a free safety.

Completely different from five years ago. Completely different.

The Ryan kid has some size.

Kopp has some serious guns.

There's a good chance we're looking at the 2nd NU NCAA tourney team ever right there.
I hope you're right, but flexing your muscles while covered in sand doesn't automatically mean you're a good basketball team.

Love the pics. Love the Seal training. Might not make them a good basketball team, but they will be tougher mentally and physically than they were previously. That's a huge part of sports.

I really don't see it, but I hope you are right.
Wow, that's strongly negative towards a team that returns a lot of talent and adds some big time pieces. Are you confusing the B1G with the NBA Western Conference?

Haywood, any chance NU rolls with Gaines as lead guard to start the season?
Not haywood but I would be surprised if we didn't see at least a few min from Gaines at lead guard a game. It really depends on how he develops as a distributor this off-season. If he becomes serviceable at that and the new guy isn't a instant impact guy he should be our starter with ash coming of injury. (If ash wasn't coming off of injury I'd have said it's whoever develops their distribution, and also probably deep ball with those two, more)

Guess it's a good experience for the players but I'd rather they spend that time practicing breaking the press or setting up a good shot as the clock runs down.

Then you obviously don't understand the importance of chemistry, desire, team, and other intangibles to the game. There are plenty of other days to work on breaking the press and setting up a good shot.

Thank goodness you are not the coach and that we have Coach Chris Collins.

NU lost some significant experience and leadership to graduation and will be hoping for a lot of production from freshman players. We didn't make the tournament last year with a team that should have been improved. This is a building year. IMO. I certainly won't be disappointed by a great season but while I hope the teams sights are high, mine a low.

And truthful.

You realize strength training is absurdly important in sports right? And that one day training with Navy Seals and not "practicing beating the press" has zero to do with how good or bad they will be at actually breaking the press?

Kopp, Benson and Pardon look like a strong and formidable front line trio. Ash and Taylor have bulked up and look like strong safeties. This team shouldn’t get pushed around.

What great recruiting imagery.

The beach, the lake, the facility....all part of NU's campus.

We've been looking at college campuses for my daughter...Wash U., Carnegie Mellon, Penn....all really great. But NU is breathtaking.

Other than Stanford can't think of a campus the mixes sports and academics with the same majesty.

How'd the Seal workouts help the 2017-18 team?

Just sayin'.....

the basketball program did not participate with the seals that summer. i believe this was a program the athletes requested to be brought back because they did it for the tournament year and not last year.

There you go.

That's the 2nd NCAA Tourney team we're looking at here. We need to do SEAL training every year.

i don't think NU will have a lead guard this year based on what we are familiar with with seeing. i think it will very much getting the ball up the court as fast as possible based on who has the ball and a general skill set to do it.

pardon/benson and any combination of law, turner, falzon, taylor, gaines, kopp, and nance will play. ash will be in the mix if healthy. greer is a possibility to play back-up minutes. CCC and staff have lots of options for non-traditional line-ups.
