Time to win out and shut the naysayers yaps. Most important is the defense has lots to prove for us to jump Clemson...eventually.

FPI gives win-out percentages to Georgia, Bama, Notre Dame and Clemson of 12.1%, 36.6%, 35.2% and 36.4% respectively.

OU's chances are 20.1%. Not bad. If the Sooners win this weekend, their win-out percentage will soar.

According to FPI, the chances of Alabama winning out along with Notre Dame and Clemson are only 4.7%. Substitute Georgia for Bama and the chance drops to about 1.6%. The chances of any three of the current FPI top 4 winning out are very slim, so discussion of this should probably be tabled for a couple of weeks. Lots can change in a hurry this time of year.

Yeah, but 96% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Starting off at #5 should end any complaining about any sort of bias or conspiracy against OU.

100% accurate. Anyone who thought we would be #5 when this was released yesterday is either a liar or is an eternal optimist.

Before anyone jumps on this negatively, I didn't say anyone who thought we should be #5,
I said anyone who thought we would be #5.

If OU is the #5 team in the BCS, is that supposed to mean only 4 other teams are better ?
Really ?

Who else would you put above them?
I'd say Wisconsin, Miami, Washington and Virginia Tech, but all of those would be neck-and-neck games IMO. That puts us anywhere in the 5-9 range with all of those teams being interchangeable.

Ohio State - killed them
Penn State - Ohio State took them down
TCU - Same position as us without a marquee win
Wisconsin - maybe 8-0
Miami - maybe 7-0
Oklahoma State - We'll find out Saturday
Washington - Lost to Arizona State.
Virginia Tech - Lost to Clemson.
Then it falls off the cliff to 2 loss teams.

From the years I have followed college and OU football, I've seen some great teams among the top 5.
What I'm saying is that OU does not play as well as I believe a top 5 team should play. If one has watched every game the Sooners have played this year, it's hard to regard this team as good as its ranking.
My initial post is focused only on OU and not other teams.
But I'm glad OU has at this time such a lofty ranking, deserved or not.

I think we are all hoping they can't rise to the occasion like they did against Ohio State. Maybe this reality that they can indeed make the playoff will light a fire....who knows though. Its tough to get these kids motivated

Several good comments posted, and a number of good points made. Might it be a little bit of 'All of the Above'?

If we've watched OU Football for any length of time, we know that this is not one of our top teams. However, none of the opponent's teams seem Top Tier, either, so it's really a matter of who is best of the Availables. I believe that OU is as good as many of the others, but will they be on Game Day? We'll learn more, as the season progresses, and it will be interesting to learn 'Who's the last team standing'...

We've been given a chance, and it's up to us to Grab It, and GO!

2011 - Nov 19 Baylor
2011 - Dec 3 Oklahoma State
2010 - Nov 6 Texas A&M
2009 - Nov 7 Nebraska
2009 - Nov 21 Texas Tech

Exactly. Some of us are so caught up with being critical of our own team that we fail to recognize the chinks in the armor of others.

It's actually hard to figure who OU is better than right now. I absolutely think there is a legit argument that Ohio State could beat OU right now. Since leaving Columbus, OU hasn't looked anywhere close to the same level of team they were against Ohio State. Unless the Big XII is simply that stacked with quality teams right now.

But OU survived a scare against Baylor, were beaten by Iowa State, were played close by Kansas State, never really dominated Texas. Does anyone really believe most of those teams are legit Top 15 or Top 15 teams in the country to play with OU like they did??

I think since playing Ohio State, OU has simply fallen off and have been playing "down" to the competition. Though last weekend against Texas Tech was a great move in the right direction. Most complete game OU has played in a while.

It sure seems that way to me too, but hopefully all that will change over the next 4...maybe 5 weeks. If we stumble at all we could miss the Big XII CCG, too.

60% of the time, statistics win every time.
