"I've got to – communication has to be better, so we can see what's going on there."

It was the tenth game of the season. There shouldn't be any communication issues. Besides, Shane doesn't call any plays so why can't he figure out when to call timeouts. I was screaming at the TV to call a TO right when the previous play ended and I've never coached football in my life.

If you listen to Shane's pressers (I can only handle a few minutes), his answers are all over the place to questions. Like others have stated, I think the guy has some mental issues going on. ADHD for starters. Talking to a reporter during the game about how much we beat them last year? No stable coach does that. Seriously. Something is off. It may be stress related to feeling pressure after so many consecutive losses. I just don't know.

Another reason why you hire an experienced head coach-one with emotional maturity.

I was also screaming TO as soon as that knee touched the ground.

They should have been prepared to call the timeout regardless. There was no need to take it into the locker room.
That was my exact first thought when he said that. His explanation makes no sense. And then it took 9 seconds to get the TO called. I could understand if like 3 seconds ticked off…still not ideal in that situation…but 9??

Back when I played the QB would have called TO immediately.

Im pretty sure every player and coach on the sideline was expecting him to.
Since no one called TO, everyone expected Beamer to call it like he has all year. Like just about every coach today. I like watching Kirby Smart run for his life to get in an official's face to call TO.

I think him and the staff was busy day dreaming about celebrating the win and had already lost focus on the game at that point.

He said he thought it was an incomplete pass and expected the clock to stop. You have 3 time-outs. Not enough time and too many time-outs to try to conserve one.

Okay, this. I couldn't remember if we had all 3, so this makes it worse.

If you have 3, you call the TO anyway.

@Gamecockjaque , I was just picturing everyone who was paying attention turning to look at Shane..... expectantly waiting for him to do what everyone knew he should be doing.

Anybody who believes there wasn't a lot of backslapping in that locker room at halftime is a fool. Hell, he looked like a kid at Christmas skipping into the locker room.

If you isolate on a lot of plays from A&M game you will see player apathy, even in the first half. Watch Howells first run for about 12 yards and iso on Harbour. He was barley engaging with his assignment to block the DB (soft) and had Howell not fallen that db would have made the tackle vs Howell springing a long one. I believe it was the second A&M touchdown, Swain just flat out stood and watched his guy blow by him and catch the pass for a score almost as if he thought we were guaranteed to get pressure on the QB so no need to run fast or play hard. He actually shrugged like , "I thought this was going to be easier and I wouldn't have to work this hard".
What is at the root of it. you can be a positive role model and motivator but still torch that arse if you don't do the fundamentals well always. Don't get me wrong, watching Harbour catch that in-route and turn it into 6 was a thing of beauty. Good lord what we all dreamed he could do in his current skill position. But in the end, we got dominated in blocking and tackling and it cost us the game. Another notable, often A&M players would take hard hits or falls to the ground and bounce up, we do and stay down or limp off. There is missing toughness which I believe is 80% mental. The kid that tackled or receiver in the end zone got pummalted but popped right up discouraged.

I hope I'm wrong but he was probably too busy pouting because he thought the pass was incomplete. He acts like a child on the sidelines in many cases.
