Not sure why they weren't ready on the last play, but honestly I take the delay of game there instead of forcing the snap to have time to look over the defense.

If the Bears rest key players next week and lose with a Philly win, they would have the #3 seed. Then who would the Bears play? It would be LA or the loser of the SF/Seattle game?

Underhand shovel pass, hook and ladder. Players executed both fine, just not the right calls for the time. Momentum killers when the non-gimmick plays have worked so well

So what should the play calls have been? There was a hook and lateral earlier today by the Texans(?) that went for a first down or TD I believe.

The shovel pass was not executed fine because because it wasn't blocked correctly.

Your basing your opinion strictly on the outcome of the play and not what went into the play call. What if the SF defense shower something earlier in the game that made a shovel pass call the right play at the time?

If the hook and lateral play had scored you would be calling Johnson a genius right now.

That's on the defense. Should never have to worry about losing a game you score 38 points in.
Even against a team that has averaged 42 points over their last 2 games and scored exactly that tonight? Both defenses looked terrible tonight and it sucks the Bears lost, but anyone expecting a defensive struggle was due for disappointment.

Get ready for more stress, whether it be the Packers, Rams, 49ers, or Seahawks in round one of the playoffs, it won't be easy.

Why is it that when the Bears lose it's all about what they did wrong, and not what the other team did right? Believe it or not the players on the other side gets paid millions off dollars too to win games. The defense looked like garbage, but so did the 49ers, but at the end of the day they got out played by a better QB, it happens. No time to lick your wounds, get over it, get ready for the Lions, lock up the #2 seed, and get ready for round 3 against the Packers.

You aren't going to find to many fans that won't point out what their team did wrong after a loss. Yes SF has a high powered offense and their defense is missing their top two players in Bosa and Warner, that being said, the offense had Kittle out and had their best OL come out after 1 play, so I didn't expect them to man handle us the way they did, but tip of the cap to them. It was an emotional week for the Bears, they had the emotional win Saturday, Christmas mid week, long trip to San Fran and some players were noticeably under the weather. Is what it is. But I don't find anything wrong with loyal fans pointing out some glaring issues and it's fine if you disagree but doesn't make the other person opinion wrong.

All valid points, but so many people are so one sided and think that everything is within the Bears control and something negative that they did and not something positive the other team did. The main factor in this game was Kyle Shannahan, who is one of, if not the best offensive minds in the league and Dennis Allen and Ben Johnson just aren't on his level at this point.

Notes from the morning papers

Burden was just in exhaustion after the game.

Bears don't plan to rest anyone vs. the Lions as they plan to secure the #2 seed and it would also mean hosting the Divisional round. Williams needs 270 yards to make Bears History.

CJ Gardner Johnson took to social media calling out the refs for the "BS Call" that negated his INT. I agree with him 100% as it was a pimpy call but I'm sure he'll get fined for the comment.

It seems like they took a lot of positives from the loss which is a good thing.

Bear Down. Good Better Best!

It was a tough loss, but I agree there are a lot of positives. First off, this team has far exceeded expectations in Ben Johnson’s first year. They have a very good offensive rookie class, and Poles hit on the 3 interior Olinemen. Caleb has a ways to go, but he continues to improve.

Defensive needs are extensive, starting with the pass rush. Hopefully, that will be the focus in the offseason.

Pass rush needs immediate addressing from a Veteran presence as they probably won't be able to address an immediate need with their lower draft pick....so this scenario was proposed to me through a friend and I like it....Trade DJ Moore and a our 2026 1st round pick and 2027 2nd round to the Raiders for Max Crosby.....with Burden proving his worth him and Odunze could be an excellent 1-2 combo with Loveland being extremely reliable and maybe Walker developing into the #3....Raiders need a WR desperately, and Crosby isn't happy their and his name has been brought up in trade talks before....unlike when we unloaded picks for Mack, I think we are in so much better shape for the future now then we were then....and I know Booker had a career night but if you can get Crosby on the other side of Sweat then you have to do it and have Booker in reserve....even if it costs 2 years of 1st rounders if they don't want the 1st round/2nd round offer with Moore

Crosby will cost multiple first round picks, most likely 3 of them. DJ could be moved but isn't an attractive trade piece due to his contract.

Burden had a quad injury, not thought to be serious but we'll see.

Of course no one likes the penalty on CJ, but at the same time it was clear as day that it was hands to the face.

I know we are past moral victories but damn that was a fun and exciting game. They can beat anyone in the NFC.
Good to hear Burden seems to be ok.
49ers O is a well oiled machine right now.
Not much to complain about on the O side for the Bears. I thought Caleb played very well, Johnson said the last play was rushed in and they didn't get set up correctly...ugghhh.

Has any one player cost a team 3 first round picks? Honestly asking because I don't recall one but I may be mistaken. Depending on this knee injury he has I think Moore plus 2 first rounders would get serious consideration. 3 though no way.

Off the top of my head 1 player for 3 1st round picks, no.

Multiple times. The Hershel Walker trade is probably the most famous, the 49ers traded 3 firsts to move up in the draft to take Trey Lance, and there were a few others as well. Carolina traded 2 firsts and DJ to the Bears for the #1 pick and the argument could be made that Crosby is worth more than Bryce Young.

It think you're misguided in saying the Bears can't address EDGE in the draft just because they will have a lower pick in the first round. Crosby was a 4th round pick out of Central Michigan so draft position doesn't matter.

Sheesh, writing off a rookie after being injured and only playing in 7 games? Curious to know what your expectations of him were at the beginning of the season.
I had no expectations for him. The bears are the ones that reached for him in the draft and then put out propaganda all training camp how he was the steal of the draft only for him to do nothing all season and then be a healthy scratch in week 17.

They got Booker and he looks like if he is healthy he can be productive but it's a risk. Can they pick a plum with a lower pick or a later round pick? Of course, but again, it's a risk. The Edge has been an issue for some time now, I'd prefer them to get a proven Vet. If they think Booker is the answer and they want to save their Draft Capital then they do this for a living I'm just a broken down aging Detective, I'll have to trust their judgement but I think it's time to pony up and make a big trade or sign a proven FA Edge if one is available.

Hyppolite was not even invited to the combine. He was a reach in the 4th round. The early returns are not positive.

The Bears just went toe to toe in a shootout with a really good team, on road in week 17 and we are talking about Ruben Hyppolite? lol
Poles had a very good 2025 draft. Monangai was a steal in the 7th round. You hit some, and you miss some.

What a great game that was! Two great games in a row for the Bears, regardless of the outcome last night.

The 49ers are the most incredible team in the NFL. They started the season without Deebo Samuel, who they traded to Washington. They started out 3-0. They lost 2-time All Pro edge Nick Bosa to a season ending injury in week 3. Then in their 6th game they lost 4-time All Pro and future HOFer LB Fred Warner to a season ending injury. Starting QB, Brock Purdy, has played only 8 games. Five time All Pro and future HOF TE George Kittle has missed six games. Last night, they lost 4-time All Pro and future HOFer OT Trent Williams to a hamstring injury for the rest of the game on their first offensive play from scrimmage.

From September 28th through November 9th they were a middling team that lost four out of seven games. They gave up an average of almost 26 points a game during that stretch while scoring an average of 23. They haven't lost since November 9th and last night was their sixth win in a row. Just what you want at this point of the season. During this stretch they have given up an average of 21 points and have scored an average of 35. Personally I think the 49ers are the best team in the NFL right now.

All these injuries and missed time by impact players and yet here they are. One win away from a division title in the best division in the league and a number 1 seed in the playoffs. Four-time All Pro RB Christian McCaffrey is the key behind this. He has played in and started all 16 games.

The 49ers defense did a good job on the last three offensive plays by the Bears. On the first play no one was open and Williams was forced to throw it away. The next play was the hook and ladder from Loveland to Swift. Deommodore Lenoir did an outstanding job of not allowing Swift to go outside where he could have gone into the endzone. Instead he steered Swift inside where he slowed him down until four other tacklers arrived to stop Swift short of the goal line. On the final play the SF defense did an excellent job again. Caleb Williams had the ball for a full eight seconds on that play before he threw the pass that fell short in the end zone. Excellent coverage on the receivers by the "Niner DBs and LBs.

Great game to watch.
