Have not been watching the game much but I did see Jaylon Johnson get burned twice. I watched only 7 plays so far.

With 3 straight home games, they could be 4 - 0. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but at least next week, they should beat the Vikings.
I can remember seasons where they didn'tm score 59 points.....
Is the Bear defense that bad? Is the Panther O that good? Is it just a first game and there isn't too much to be up or down about? Am I a hapless Bears fan that is afraid to feel good about the possibility of an explosive offense and looking forward to a good season?

I'd also like to understand how bad or good the Carolina D is. I'm unsure whether I actually enjoyed that game -- felt more like a video game.
I think all things can be true. The Bears offense is that good when clicking like they were today. Probably can be a bit better without all the penalties.
Also, your best offense weapon has 0 catches. And you scored 59.
Defense is that bad right now but I like to look at this. Twice they started at the 40 due to terrible kick offs. Once they started at the 25 after a fumble. That’s 21 points.
They will be better when healthier too.

The Bears’ defense is bad. Jaylin Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson got lit up. Small sample size, but Malik Muhammad looked like their best CB. They sure could use the oft injured Kyler Gordon.
They scored 59 snd no catches by Loveland. If the Oline holds up, they should continue to light it up in BJ’s offense in year 2.
No doubt. It almost seems like Weeks 1 and 2 are the de facto preseason in today’s NFL, since the starters don’t play in the actual preseason.
14 points were scored by Carolina on very short fields. Overall, I thought the defense did OK.
If the offense is going to be a scoring machine, then the bend-but-don't-break defense will suffice enough.
I was hoping after being up 21 - 7, the Bears could stop Carolina and score again to somewhat put the game away.
Instead, it took only a few plays to make it 21 - 14. They need to do better with that.
I'm hoping Wentz doesn't turn into Dan Marino next week. Put a little pressure on him, they should be fine, but I totally get your concern.
Thieneman was the only player in the secondary who seemed to know what he was doing today. That's my concern

I only watched two games this weekend. The Bears game and the Naz/Montini game.
I saw about 200 points scored for both games together.

Not sure what to take away from today. Obviously the offense won't be able to operate at will like they did today, but how good are they really? Will definitely know a lot more next week when they go againat the Vikings blitz happy defense. I did love the running game though.
As far as the defense goes, they absolutely need to improve, but the Panthers did have TD drives of 21, 42, and 58 yards so the short fields need to be taken into account. On the positive, they had 2 sacks and 3 turnovers.
Can't forget that the Panthers also lost to the Rams by only 3 pointd in the playoffs last year so it's not like they're a terrible team.
All in all it was an odd, yet historic week 1 for the beloved, but it was just that, a week 1 game. We'll see how they build on it next week.

Are you ready to admit you were wrong about Caleb Williams?
There was a tweet (can't remember who it was) that showed that in his rookie season it took the Caleb Williams' Bears four games to reach 59 points.
Ask me at the end of the year. I said in the offseason that one slightly above average season last year is nice but it's about consistency. We all know the "hero ball" stuff from last year was fun but it's not sustainable. I said I want to see Caleb make the routine plays look routine, so we'll see what this year brings.
You're looking at him through your Bears goggles. Just looking at his numbers, yes, slightly above average is what he was. His completion % and QBR were both 58, his yardage and TD were in the top half of the league, but not top 5.
He's definitely trending in the right direction and if he repeats last years success and improves I'll happily eat a big plate of crow. At the end of the year we could look back at week 1 and say it was the start of something special or we could look back and say sweet Jesus what the hell happened the rest of the year.
One play that I saw from Williams that I loved because it showed how calm he is was when he got the snap, quickly yet calmly wiped the sweat of his hand, and then throw the pass....I'm not sure I ever saw a QB do that

Defense was what I thought they would be, average. MLB Edwards had 2 tackles.....leading tackler was the Safety....Street was impressive. Rookies Muhammad and Theniman (I'll learn how to spell his name as the season goes on) were impressive. It was 123 degrees in the field and week 1, I figured both teams would have issues defensively and they did. I give the defense a C. I figure that will be their grade for most of the season.
I think if they are average all year that is a win.
You sound like Chris Collinsworth...kind of. LOL. Right before the Cowboys, Giants game last night he said. "If the Cowboys' defense is just average, then you can include them in Super Bowl talk." I just rolled my eyes. LOL. Well, the Cowboys lost. What a shame.
The question wasn’t based solely on his play in Week 1. I liked the progression of his play from last year.And, I’d term his play from last year as better than “slightly above average”.
And the Bears won, what's your point?
We may not like where the Bears D is at right now but lets live in reality and understand what they are. They will again depend on TOs.
