Curious of your experiences/reviews, good or bad. Our 'nice' mattress we bought in store 2 years ago is pure **** -- have tried all sorts of tricks to help with the sagging, all the way down to building/adding new slats. Nothing seems to work, pretty sure we just got a deformed or **** mattress. Back hurts so bad in the mornings I can barely get my socks on after sleeping in my little 'hole'. Awful.

Most reviews seems to be positive of these things in general, and I don't care to drop 5K+ on a mattress, so save your mattress bragging.


Seems overall, Leesa seems to be the best of the major 3. Pretty sure I'm going to order one this week -- marcus welby, they all come with 30-100 day money back guarantees, so worth a shot.

If you have a "nice" mattress that is just 2 yrs old, and it is sagging and/or deformed, then you can get a new one. It is a process but worth it.

I know. Have 'started' that process a few times already, and sick of dealing with all that it entails.

Just bought a Tuft and Needle. It was only $700, so worst case scenario -- I hate it and use it in the guest bedroom. (not likely)

These companies have all done an amazing job at disrupting the market.

I believe most of the big are now owned by major corps, if I'm not mistaken.

I was leaning to Leesa before we got whatever organic brand WS decided on. Ours was a little more complicated to setup than the Casper style but still only took 15 minutes start to finish. We're happy with it after having the same exact experience that BBdk did with the expensive mattress turning to a bean bag. For the last year before our new one I was essentially relegated to the guest bed if I wanted to walk the next day.

Those of you that have the Casper/Tuft Needle/etc., how long have you had them? I'm curious how long they will maintain their shape. I had one of my vendors make one for me and I've been sleeping on it for a month now. So far we like it.

Anth is correct, the big guys will either buy these start-ups or develop their own. Sealy is already marketing their "Cocoon". I may try one of those soon as well.

You might have gotten a **** mattress, but if you guys are getting any of the new, softer mattresses you're probably going to experience the 'hole' more often than not. It happens a lot more in newer mattress because they're thicker and softer, and if they have springs they're usually pocketed coil. Meaning if you sleep in the same spot every night (who doesn't?), you'll eventually be able to tell where your spot is.

If that is your main concern going forward, you might try getting a firmer, traditional innerspring and getting a nice topper for it to bring it to your preferred comfort level. That way, when your topper get worn out, you can just get a new one rather than trashing the whole mattress set.

Ours came with a box spring that I assembled and a pillow top that you inserted the latex inserts under making my side more firm. All came wrapped up in about 5 boxes.

We've had the actual Bed in a Box brand for about a month and I can't complain so far. It might be just a bit on the soft side, but not too bad. I think we have the serenity gel with cool rest.

After doing as much research as you can online, I bought a mattress from select-a-bed. I think the same company makes Temp-Flow mattresses. We have had it around 2 years and it is the most comfortable mattress we have had. I would definitely recommend adding them to your list.

I'm thinking about trying one of the Purple mattresses. I didn't care for a memory foam bed because they tend to make you hot and the one we tried felt hard as a rock on my back. We keep our temperature in the 68° range at night and cool temperatures seem to make memory foam feel much firmer than the ones you can test out in the showrooms.

Not the new ones w/ the gel. Even tempurpedic has redesigned one of theirs to offset this objection that was their stigma for a long time.

Did they do anything to correct the firmness issue due to temperature changes? The one we tried felt like I was sleeping on the floor all night when I tried to get out of bed. My back was killing me after those nightmare nights. I also can't see spending like $2,000 on a mattress that may or may not work for my bad back when there might be something better for less.

The Purple mattress intrigues me with it not being hot and not having some of the other negatives of memory foam. It is about half the price or more of a Tempurpedic. Here is a link if anyone is interested.

I also need to find a pillow that stays cool and is comfortable to lay on as well, but that seems to be extremely hard to do. I had a fusion in my neck so good pillows are a pain to find as well as mattresses.

Predictably, the mattress in a box model is(or will soon be) becoming just as perplexing as buying one in a store. There's already a dozen or so well-known players in the game with many more soon to follow. They're not really breaking any new ground as far as mattress construction goes, but I think they are great for the industry. Hopefully their return policies and customer service will force the traditional brands to change their policies to a more customer friendly model.

Ordered it Monday night around 7pm, it shipped yesterday, & tracking shows it out for delivery right now...looking forward to maybe actually sleeping tonight, we'll see.

BBdK, can always count on you :clap:

Good luck everyone!! Next time spend the extra money at an independent manufacturer to have both sides finished. Have to flip and turn or you’ll wear out the only finished side in no time. Especially if you have a wood box for a base. Always get a mattress harder than the one your sleeping on as they all soften/ break down over time. If a pillow top, definitely make sure it’s hard because It’ll break down faster. The type of coils and size of wire is important as well as the density of the foam layers.
Sounds complicated but it’s actually pretty simple when you’re not getting distracted by whistles and bells.
