I see this a lot at basketball games.
Parents asking coaches "why isn't my kid playing"
Parents berating officials for a call they made.
Officials, coaches, and athletics deal with enough as it for them to have to take crap from the parents. The adults who should know better.

Darkhorse34, I believe that air horns are banned at games by the NCHSAA. Could be wrong tho.

I looked at the NCHSAA rule book to see what it said about noise makers:

4.1.24 - Any noise making objects are prohibited at indoor contests (cheerleaders may use non-electric hand megaphones).

So, unfortunately.... they aren’t illegal.
But, I would imagine that if they were being used for an obvious distraction (like a whistle from the stands), the referee could require that the noise be eliminated.

Great article now if we can only get those annoying air horns banned

When NE played at Indian River VA earlier this year their fans had megaphones. It was the craziest atmosphere and way more annoying than air horns.
