Sounds like he may be available soon. He would be sort of a BC deluxe, amazing Xs and Os coach bit with some serious college accomplishments. Not sure how he’d do with recruiting but seems like someone Phillips would want to at least talk with. I’m fine with keeping CC and we likely will. Just not sure he has the Xs and Os ability to over perform our talent.

I'd open the vault to bring Beilein to NU. He's already done his time in Purgatory with the Cavs, not sure he'd welcome another hopeless case in NU though.......

Why would he come to Northwestern? Can't come up with many reasons

1) Money? Would imply the school was willing to go crazy. Found he was making $3.8M at MI. Could not figure out what he makes in Cleveland. Would also imply money was a huge factor for him and that other schools were not going as crazy with an offer.
2) Nothing to prove. Kind of "done but not done" with basketball. A challenge sounds appealing. Solidify his name as a college coach great who won regardless. Not caring if it does not work.

Sounds pretty unlikely

There's no way Beilein would come here. His entire coaching career has been methodically moving up one level of basketball at a time. He went from high school, to junior college, to D3, to D2, to low-major D1, to mid-major D1, to power D1, to blue blood D1, to NBA. I don't know where he goes from here, but it ain't NU.

I’m sure we could say the same way about a lot of good recruits but we still want CC to pursue them and see what happens. JP didn’t get to where he’s at my assuming things are not possible.

Texas is going to be open and maybe Indiana. Speaking of which, could we finally get Shaka Smart?

Could always have Shaka Smart with Tom Crean as an assistant. Dynamic duo of coaches who can't be competitive with lottery talent.

The sad thing is that, in all likeliness, neither of them would entertain the idea of coaching NU

I don't follow the NBA at all, but how could Cleveland dump Beilein already? Wouldn't they owe him zillions of dollars? He hasn't even been there a year yet. That said, I love Beilein as a coach, and while I'm far from ready to give up on Collins, this would be like bringing in Maddon to replace Renteria.

He's infinitely more likely to go to DePaul than NU.

Texas or retirement seem like two other likely scenarios

Gee, who could have seen Beilein would be a poor fit the pros?

According to ESPN, he needed to apologize to his team after a January film session where he said his guys were "no longer playing as a bunch of thugs."

For you football guys, somebody remind Fitz of this example if the Bears ever come calling.

I too love Beilein as a coach and am nowhere near giving up on CCC just yet, and I see where the Maddon/Renteria comparison comes in. I would toss out there, though, that Beilein will be, I believe, 68 next season. The guy hasn't got much left to prove at the collegiate level; you'd have to think he's not far from winding down his coaching career and embarking on a terrific and well deserved retirement from the rat race. As admirable a guy as I think he is, I can't help but wonder how much fire he'd bring to the program at this point, and then we'd have to replace him relatively shortly thereafter anyway. I could be wrong, but three seasons from now, I don't imagine many will be clamoring for Collins' replacement.

He is 68. He would go into broadcast booth before he would come here

There is zero evidence for the assertion that he would prefer a broadcasting gig to a coaching gig.

There is, however, a plethora of evidence of people under 50 throughout our society who have screwed things up royally as leaders. It's almost like there's something to that experience and wisdom thing. You should pray for Beilein. He would improve this program dramatically within weeks.

I think the transition from Renteria to Maddon is a good comparison.

As a dreamer, I could VERY easily see Beilein offered the gig for a 3-4 year stint with an agreed-upon replacement on campus on Day 1.

Now back to our regularly-scheduled reality.

He's not quite being dumped, more like he is quitting.

NU needs some new ideas , especially on offense. Maybe Belien would like a "cushy" assistants job without the pressure of recruiting and overall responsibility of running a program. It would be an easy way to wind down a career. I can dream-can't I ?

Here's how it's going to go down:
1) Beilein signs a 4 year contract with NU
2) PBS signs as an assistant being paid the same as he makes at Milwaukee
3) Same day PBJ commits
4) Next day Max Christie commits
5) PBS does all the recruiting as Beilein is tired of elite level recruiting and never recruited in Chicago anyway
6) PBJ and Christie love NU so much they stay for 4 years
7) After his 4 years, Beilein retires and PBS takes over. That was always the plan
8) PBS wins the national championship with seniors PBJ and Christie. That's why they stayed
9) Admissions gets so excited with the publicity it brings to the school, applications grew 5 fold after all, that they match the Dookies standards
10) We become the go to program for Chicago and IL kids. We live happily ever after. Credits roll.

A more Northwestern-likely scenario: PBJ and Christie both commit to NU, are named to US Olympic team, travel overseas, contract the coronavirus and are never heard from again. Well, I can nightmare, can't I?

Barkley weighs in ... rips players

LINK

“I want to call out the Cleveland Cavaliers. I thought what they did to coach Beilein was ridiculous, unprofessional,” Barkley said

Not surprising, Barkley calling it as he sees it - players/coaches/owners - he doesn't care what they think.

But they need their "safe spaces"... ridiculous in any team, let alone in the dreadfully bad Cavaliers.

On another note, wish there were more people in broadcasting calling it like it is. I understand why there aren't, risky business. But what we get is fluffy clouds and not a clear picture of reality.
