Well I certainly can understand Allens post, but imo, baseball season was great and we exceeded expectations in the season overall. Also, Huggs killed it in the transfer portal and built a roster with more talent than he did last year. The only real disappointment since the bball tourney loss has been WVU football, who basically broke the record for least attendance in the spring game after another losing season. We have to endure a throwaway football season this year for the first time in most of us fans lives. A coach who should not be here was kept because a really bad AD made a really bad contract decision. Its a joke. Just like that barstool sports guy said. Neal isnt on the hot seat, he's just waiting to be fired lol. IMO that is the only thing wrong with WVU sports right now. Everything else seems to be going well or in the right direction for most other sports. WVU football is a loss right now and will lose way more than Neal's buyout in lack of ticket sales this year. Tough situation for the cash cow sport.....

Typical WVU season goes like this… play a few good games against top 30ish competition, climb polls, get optimistic, get blown out in a “showcase” game against a top 10ish team, never recover.

You just described 98% of the teams out there. I guess what I mean is that year-after-year there are only a handful of teams with a "legit" shot at a national title. In football it is Alabama/Georgia. Look at LSU and Florida. What you described is basically them as well (in football).

WVU hit 20,000 season tickets a month ago..probably the Pitt game lure
Where do you get those numbers, link? That is less than a third of the seats and still a good decline in season tickets from pre covid years. By the end of the year, the season ticket holders may be the only ones showing up based on what we saw last season, if they are still showing up. The fact is that no one has ever seen fan optimism this low on social media ever, and WVU football hasnt been this bad since the 70's or maybe ever, so none of us really know how it will play out. We will see what happens....

1. I don't disagree with you on the upcoming football season pessimism.

2. I don't judge the outlook of a season based upon "low social media optimism". I felt last year, at times, WVU looked like a good football team. Most of those were when we had Greene at QB and had a threat on the field and not a statue standing in the backfield waiting to look like a fainting goat. My football expectations have dwindled over the past decade. Under Rich Rod, it was 10+ wins and BCS bowl bid. Now it is 8+ wins and a good bowl, hopefully close enough to travel to, and a team that plays hard. Like it or not, that's just how it is.

3. My prediction on the season pass/attendance will be simple. If we come out and beat Penn State and Pitt, we will average well over 55,000 per home game. If we split with those two, then 50,000. If we lose both, then it will be less than 42,000.

WVU fans will always want the backyard brawl for sure. It would go a long way to sell tickets to other games if we can actually win it this year. The way it looks now, WVU football could lose tens of millions by the end of the season.

Yes, being a WVU fan is tough. It has ever since I started understand sports in the early 70's and it will be until I die. Personally, it makes the great years even that much more enjoyable knowing our school and state has to work harder for success than some other programs and their spoiled fans.

I know I am in the minority with my attitude. Most that post on here have unrealistic expectations and kneejerk opinions 99% of the time. They are not of any importance to me.

maybe it's my age or the impressionable accumulative experiences of having people die when at the end of their life while at the same time babies being delivered via my daughter's skill, but I simply appreciate the gold and blue and the flying WV. The baseball team did well and I cheered them on like MountaineerWV did and if the football and basketball don't, I'll still root for them cheering them on too.

the rest is just dumbass youth, the opportunity to express the failures of a personality on a message board, or failure to mature as older adult type drama. I deal with it everyday. Plus it's a message board. Just saying.

Being a Mountaineer fan is easy. The two options going into most seasons are either
1) Sucking hard all season.
2) Exceeding expectations early to inevitably **** the bed at the worst possible time later.

WVU has sold out 27 sections some are larger than others but will average around 1200 fans.. 33,000 or so sold so far..the record is 38 in 2007
