As expected, Durkin is going to become UM's DC. What I didn't know is that Durkin is from Youngstown, Ohio. Could this interfere with the connections we have there?

Just me , but going forward after two years , winning will affect recruiting in Ohio now more than anything...Making two or three more plays this year could have sent recruiting skyrocketing...It is now getting to be a little put up or shut up time

we were going to be recruiting more with Michigan in Ohio in the future no matter who was on their staff

Yeah, I don't think they were ever going to hire some guy from Siberia and not compete with us on any recruits. If we want to recruit in a northerly direction, we are going to have to compete for recruits with these schools from the B1G.

The past 5 years have been absolutely massive towards our success as a program. If we had hired a "Stoops" for example instead of joker we could have capitalized on the troubles at Penn St, Ohio St, Mich, UT, UL (kragthorpe) etc etc. All these programs had some huge problems with sanctions and bad coaches that are regional to us. Instead of capitalizing on their misfortune we did the opposite and became absolutely horrible.
Just think how much different we could have been if we were able to bring in a good coach who could recruit against these troubled teams and sell playing in the sec and a program that is not under sanctions. What we did was massively stupid

We could of snagged a decent coach after Brooks retired if we paid out 3-4 million and good money for a staff.

Much more difficult to sell now that these programs have hired good coaches and staff and are no longer in trouble with the NCAA.

Like a previous poster stated we need to show progress on the field and if we do we can land better recruits.
VT, Vandy, and very few other programs are still struggling. All these schools will battling for players and good coaches who can recruit and are great coaches.
I'm confident in Stoops abilities as well as Marrow, Brumbaugh and Scott.

Up in the air on the rest. Especially our OL coach. Was kinda disappointed in our OL haul this year as most of em were not highly coveted. Have a good one for sure and am undecided on the rest. Thought for sure we could have landed 2-3 4 star lineman due to our needs. Our OL play has been dreadful the past 2 years. Most all those guys were rated out of HS higher than what we have coming in.
We have a couple of guys that will be playing over the next couple of years who have nfl qualities about them like Krok.

Durkin's name is not Stoops or Marrow. I don't think he carriers the weight of our guys in OH. BP was at Nebraska and now the head coach at Youngstown State and we out recruited him in Ohio.

Thats really not a fair comparison, Youngstown State isn't a P5 conference. Durkin has many connections in Florida and Georgia and is pretty popular with the kids here. UGA's top instate target left on the board is going to take a visit to UK because of Durkin and if UM wants to compete with tOSU they will not concentrate solely on the state of Ohio. Now they will likely recruit some of the kids UK, tOSU, PennSt and even MichSt recruit in Ohio, and will have some success, but I expect Harbaugh to recruit Cali pretty hard too, alone with the southeast.

My question was more specific to Youngstown. When UM hired Harbaugh, I didn't think it would affect UK recruiting Ohio much. Michigan has and will always recruit Ohio hard.....it won't change under Harbaugh. The only way that I thought improved Michigan recruiting would affect us, would be if we are battling for a couple of the Ohio highliners. But, Durkin (who is from Youngstown) is going to walk into Youngstown wearing the gear of an elite college program.....and representing an elite head coach. Granted that the Stoops' name probably carries more weight in Youngstown than Durkin.....but it is also possible that Durkin could interfere with of our connections there.

Stoops and Marrow trump that.

BUT, could be very negative for us and Marcus Lewis...he committed to Florida and was tight with Durkin there...he has always liked Michigan as well...

His top 3 will be UK, Miami and Michigan.

At UK he has Jabari Greenwood and Kobie Walker

At Miami he will have Lawrence Cager

At Michigan its Durkin

Durkin's name is not Stoops or Marrow. True enough statement but a Michigan fan would counter that Stoops and Marrow are not Harbaugh. His name is going to have much more clout than any of these guys. This year UK has the early commits and it might be tougher for Michigan to turn kids but next year Mich will be a player in Ohio I expect even if his assistants don't have the Marrow roots.

Michigan's always a major player in Ohio though. So having Harbaugh take the recruiting up a notch or two isn't going to change us much. 1/3 to 1/2 of Michigan's roster has always been and will always be players from Ohio. Where I think UM/Harbaugh will effect us is on 1-2 kids each yr that are higher profile......kids that we used to say "Hoke's not doing so well, the BigTEN is down, come start something with us." With Harbaugh there, UM will rise, the BigTEN is due for an upswing, and it will be harder to get those few guys. Most of Ohio recruiting will remain the same for us.

Unless Durkin can break into Younstown. Then the combination of Harbaugh and Durkin could have a fair impact on us.

Yes the "Joker" fiasco really hurt us. It was in a window when we could have really gained ground.
