I’m a Bills fan and certainly not any fan of the Patriots or Belichick, and I certainly know that he achieved his success because of Tom Brady, but how in the world is an 8-time winning Super Bowl coach not getting it on the first ballot?

Whether I think he was all that great of a coach or not, taking the Brady factor into consideration, if you win 8 Super Bowls, you gotta get out on the first ballot.

Perhaps it's the "he's still coaching" thing - or perhaps it's the "they got caught cheating" thing / stealing signals, deflategate, etc.... (personally I agree with Dale Jr...if you ain't cheating, you ain't tryin')

Bottom line: I agree with you and if he was dead (God forbid) he'd definitely be 1st ballot. Who knows... ??

The fact he couldn’t get an NFL job may be an indicator that he has enemies in high places. He didn’t exactly leave the Patriots on good terms, so there is at least one owner with influence who might have an axe to grind. 🤷‍♂️

I was thinking this as well. He did not endear himself to many people during his time in the league.

Well, in the end, it's only going to be the NFL as a whole organization that's going to look stupid..... not Bill.

When it comes back around the convo will be "How was he not a 1st ballot guy?" and the NFL will take heat.

Are candidates chosen by the media like in MLB? If so, it's not really an NFL issue. I agree, though. It's a dumb decision. I guess their rationale is that he's going to get in, but at least they can keep him from being 1st ballot.

I can't think of any other reason.

I honestly don't know how it works. I'm a college guy. Never cared for the NFL much until playoff time. So, I really can't say.

If he isn’t in as the HC with 6 Super Bowls, then what coach deserves to be in?

Rumor is Bill Polian led a group to go against him. Of course he denies it and says he voted for him. I get the 2 “scandals” but the NFL didn’t exactly strip the Lombardi Trophy from him either.

I agree with Bill when he learned of him missing the 80% mark…”Is 6 super bowls not enough?” Do the voters know how many franchises, much less coaches, have 6 Super Bowls?

I don’t like the guy, and I don’t like the Patriots, but this is ridiculous. And he’ll get in. That’s for sure. But to leave him off as a first ballot guy is just so petty.

84-103 as a HC without Brady, was probably discussed, that being said imho, he should of been a first ballot guy with the rings and then the rings as a DC with the Giants.

Yep. He does get the knock for Brady, BUT what coach who wins big doesn't have great players?

Crazy thing is, whatever their strategy, it may backfire. Most folks probably had a bit of a negative view of Belichick. But this turns him into more of a sympathetic figure.

It will also completely overshadow the HOF induction ceremony. Now all anyone is going to talk about is Belichick NOT being there.

The whole "but he had Brady..." argument is silly. Cignati had Mendoza, Chizik had Newton, Bill Walsh had Joe Montana. Every winning head coach has a great QB, almost by definition.

Without stating the obvious reasons he shouldn’t be. HE SHOULD BE IN!! Period!! Unless it is a rule that he is still coaching, albeit college.
