ENDENE looks B!G, nice Blast type double but not a clean finish. He did win scramble to get TD. Rode kid out which is nice to see in upper weights where points can be hard to come by! Quick stand up to start 2nd but kid was a Leg rider, BEL hit for a stall, off restart another quick stand up but almost got spladeled!!! Have to work on and work on countering LEGS in IOWA!!! ENDENE did what he needed to to win in 3rd 75

HEAVY KRUETER pleasantly surprised to see BIG BEN He looks thicker, needs to get B!Ger!!! Nice work on first TD, second TD was NICE! Ben down, another leg rider, Ben countered nice and got a reversal. Kid chooses Top and Ben got worked a little, AGAIN, work on legs!!! grade 80 with 1st period being a 90, 2nd a 85 and third a 50!

125 PETERSON zeros in 1st did not make "IRON" happy, IOWA down quick escape and TD. I like seeing explosive stand ups off bottom. You need to add Grandbys, flips, rolls etc... to counter opponents moves when you do them!!! Rode kid Tuff got a stall warning out of it. BEL down in 3rd gets escape no more points 76

133 AYALA Besides wasting a very nice 1st shot getting into scramble, AYALA looked great. Constant pressure many attacks, firemans, flyby , single, etc.... Re inforced bar tilt leads to TECH 99

141BAILEY Showed great speed on 1st double had a tuff ride leading to bar and wrist, thought he had TWOOO on tilt? BEL down got escape after 30 sec, IOWA TD at buzzer was nice. No points in 3rd 77

149 KAEL VOINOVICH Good hand fighting lead to a nice single with good finish! KV had another nice shot which lead to him going behind and on the "mat return" kid grandbies out!?!?!? Bel down in 2nd, escape, KV gets another TD off nice shot, looked to be gassing some end 2nd and had to fight like hell and wrestle smart in third to get the Victory. give him the 83

157 WILLIAMS came out swinging!!! Shot to tie up to throw!!! Gets backs, kid escapes, right back to it, cuts to a cradle and lights out as he lights UP the crowd. Like the FIRE but NOT the jive at end!!! 100

165 CALIENDO besides a shot to a headlock attempt where he gives up TD, this kid just look great. Constant pressure many MANY techniques, a lot of fun to watch!!! 90

174 KENNEDY This kid is DOING THE WORK!!!! He keeps getting better. He went to work quick scoring TDs, shots, snaps to go behinds, need to see this kind of improvement from more of our guys!!! Finished kid off in 1st with a nice tilt for the tech 100

184 FERRARI kid is slick, quick, strong, hard to score on, looks the part of a National Champ in a DEEP weight class!!! Will be a lot of fun watching it play out!!!! He gets the tech at the buzzer in 3rd 98

New IOWA mat RULES!!!

Looked like a decent crowd

Give the cheer team and dancers an A also give the KNIGHTS an A, they come to SCAP!!!

Looked like Kael V. gassed hard in his match. Would get the high single and then just rest. First match in Carver, I get it. Liked his offense. But yeah his tank was empty by the 2nd.
Thought he should have got hit for stalling. Had no intention of scoring in the third. Just jumping to legs and holding on for dear life. I remember years ago Gable telling the ref to call his guy for stalling, bet Tom was thinking the same thing in the third.

I can’t recall if this was his first varsity call up or if he had one or two last year (don’t think so) but that could explain the adrenaline dump.

i wont jump of Kael V to hard given that hes young and this is the first match of the year.

Meh. A couple guys had been sick the past few weeks. All of the newcomers first match in Carver and for Mo his first match as a D1 wrestler. Obviously we need to be better in March, but I’m not gonna be too critical on an opening dual in November. Let’s not forget Kemerer barely won his first match in Carver against a non qualifier and he ended up ranked 2nd at the end of the season. Onward.

Kael V: Thought I was watching Cullen Schreiver in on single legs. He has got to hit the weights and run the steps in Carver. 49 is looking pretty iffy at this point.

Ohio st looked flat at Clarion. The teams that are going to the Duals next week have all been training to peak there. You could tell the guys who have been in the room for years got mentally tough and pushed thru and got techs. Angelo hasn't been around long but mentally tough is his middle name so that was no surprise

So we have established that the Hawks were training through and sick. Wrestling season is back .

In seriousness some rough moments but PK, Ayala and JW went crazy. Angelo, Caliendo, and BK had some game opponents and they fought through the adversity . Peterson and Nasir looked blah but are proven. 97 and 49 were bad.

Either you understand how things work or you don't. Ohio st was flat as well . The teams going to the duals have been in hard training phases. You can believe what you want or you can listen to those in the know. The who was sick and who wasn't I don't know nor do I care.

All of us being Hardcore IOWA fans, We basically want to see all the matches go like AYALA, KENNEDY WILLIAMS, FERRARI. Certainly not always going to happen! That team, to give them credit, came in and went hard up and down their lineup. IOWA had many new faces in our lineup who were making their first CARVER appearance.

I felt everyone of our wrestlers showed something that you could point to and say, " that was real good stuff!!!" Sure we made some mistakes which were mostly minor and will be worked on. Plus our condition outside of KV looked pretty impressive especially for this early in the season!

We all know the L O N G haul that is NCAA wrestling!!! IOWA needs to BUILD, IMPROVE, STAY HEALTHY, and keep moving forward. B!G matches coming in FAST so we get a much better understanding of where we are at soon!!!

He needs to learn how to wrestle mean, imo. I saw a few times when a heavy cross face might have helped him break a grip and gain control of his opponent but he looked to be trying to finesse those positions.

I know how I came off and was just trying to be cheeky. Apologies. There are just a few built in excuses that come out when we struggle.

National Duals will be awesome and Iowa needs a multi day challenge to simulate the end of year tourneys and learn from the wrestlers reaction to the weight management and multiple challenging matches daily over 2 days.

How does this "million dollar" purse work??? I mean if a cool Mil is on the line? That makes these matches pretty darn important no!?!?!? Also, where is this money coming from and does it go right into the HWC???

I am thinking I may be way off on all of this but that is what I heard and have not been following TWOOO closely till now!!!

I thought it was a good intro to D1. You now wrestle for Iowa and everyone is going to bring their best against you. I like your take Dub…”wrestle mean.”

Peak at the National Duals in November. Sounds like a winning plan.
The plan of peaking has to be accompanied with the knowledge of HOW EXACTLY you do it!!! GABLE in his book The IOWA WAY had the peaks and valleys of how he saw it back in his days as coach. Without having a schedule in front of me, it seems like this Tourn is in an OK spot. That is with the understanding that these kids wrestle way more year round then we ever did back in the "old" days, and stay in better wrestling shape.

Without the above being true, then I would 100% agree that this Tourn is way to early in the season. Going back to GABLE, I believe the number he used at the LOW end was 75% of peak conditioning in the "off" season. AssUme-ing that number which I am guessing is under where most of our guys STARTED the season. They would have had a few solid weeks to BRING SALLY UP:)

So I would say the worst any starter/upperclassman should be at now is 90%(hopefully better)! Then after this Tourn, I am guessing there should NOT be any BARN BURNERS till after Xmas!!! That would allow them some time to tune it down some, before kicking it back up for the 2nd semester run to Nationals.

ok OK here let me try to simplify for the simpletons!!!

Say the bellow N represents the High and lows with the top being PEAK. You come in like the song-on the left hand side at 75%. You build to a top level approaching 100%, then you cycle back down. The way IOWAS season plays out, I would plan on TWOOO cycles where our first peak is National duals and second is B1Gs/Nationals!!!

Give me a NOD(thumbs up) if you get it????

I didn’t think Block’s ACL would be healed and fully rehabbed yet, maybe not this season, but Kael isn’t the answer. I think Estrada is our best option, but apparently he’s also injured. Does anyone know what his injury is?

Block is ready and is fine giving him an extra week was smart. Estrada had a surgery and he will be back my guess is Dec/jan
