I was just looking at the schedules on the lower levels and noticed Boylan freshman are at Woodstock North week 1 instead of playing the Bucs. Numbers must be really low in Belvidere.

I noticed that too. The overall school enrollment isn't significantly down, I don't think. I'm hoping some Belvidere fans can shed some light.

I don't know how you could cancel a freshman season before you actually start practice.

Numbers have been lower on the south side ever since the school split in 2007. North has typically had 20-30 more kids in the program year in, year out.

Not sure where it stands now, but I imagine its more of the same. Sad for what was once a top 1-2 program all of the Northern Illinois area.

School hasn't even started yet. You work the hallways to get kids out.
If 15 out of 15 thus far are 200 lbs or less, then the writing is on the wall. You can't be 150lbs kids on the oline just to have a season. Player safety is important.

This is different than Mt. Carmel. There isn't every grammar school on the south side of chicago sending boys there. There is one middle school feeding direclty into one high school, the coaches know exactly who's who and I'm sure are already working kids to play.

That is the point. Mt. Carmel will have 70 plus kids day one. They don't have to work the hallways. We pull 20 to 25 kids every year at Freshman registration/ first couple days of school. There is no concern on what shows or doesn't show in the summer.

Boylan Freshmen only have 24 and only 7 7th graders signed up for junior Titans along with about 20 8th graders. This could be the last year of freshmen football for them.

That is because MC is a football factory. How many freshmen signed up for marching band at MC?

I am not talking about MC football. They don't recruit the hallways. Pretty much every team in the South Suburban, Southland and some of the Southwest Suburban have to recruit the hallways the first week of school for freshman players.

Exactly... you don't have to recruit the hallways because you're MC.

I'm pretty sure mc140 coaches at a Southland school... typically he's giving the perspective of that school and not MC.

I hear what he's saying about recruiting the halls...

And maybe some of you guys at the 2000+ enrollment high schools don't understand the point I'm making. At a small or medium high school, that has 1 middle school feeding directly into it, and it only, the coaches already have when the kids were in 8th grade....

I was pretty much addressing NN. And certainly understand that who you have is who you have. At the same time when I was at the Beloved we were about 1600 and had to recruit the classrooms. There were a handful of students who didnt meet the practice requirements and had to miss the 1st and sometimes 2nd game because they started when or after school started.

So obviously the increased knowledge of long term injury risk to the brain is one aspect that is keeping kids away. Is the other the fact that kids don't want to deal with the year round aspect of HS Fball now if they don't think the playing time is there for them? That combination is not a good one for numbers moving forward.
