I didn’t see it as a good move in the first place, the travel costs alone would have been ridiculous.

When I heard them say about 6 months ago...."we will work our way up to becoming a full D2 scholarship level": wasn't a good sign at all...you either go all in at once and have the $$$ available or you stay D3

I'm puzzled by this. Why announce this move ten weeks ago and back track on it so soon? What did they learn or what changed in the last couple of months that they didn't know in whatever decision making process they employed to move to D2 in the first place? Does going 0-3 to start the 2018 football season have anything to do with it?

Right now, the only NCAA institution in the Chicago area that offers football scholarships is Northwestern, and most high school football players from this area aren't good enough to even sniff a football scholly from a school like NU. So, I thought Benedictine becoming the second Chicago area NCAA institution to offer football scholarships was a smart move relative to recruiting the Chicago area for football talent. I realize that there are considerations other than football that are likely driving this process.

Not so sure about "ridiculous" travel costs. They were slated to go to the GLVC which, for football, contains programs in Illinois, Missouri and Indiana. For non-football sports, add Kentucky as the only other state with a conference member (Bellarmine in Louisville).

Relative to travel, there's not much difference difference between Benedictine playing at Franklin College this year or University of Indy next year in football. Agree that Benedictine to Rockhurst in KC would be a ***** of a bus ride, but if neighboring Lewis U can do it, why can't Benedictine?

Right now the bulk of their conference is within 1.5 drive the D2 league they were going to join most of the schools are 5 hours or more away, that mean hotel stays for every sport when you are away on top of the extra cost to get there. If you are working on tight budgets that is a killer.
