Per Bleacher Report

North Carolina Tar Heels guard Joel Berry II announced Tuesday he will return to school for the 2017-18 season.

"After speaking to my family I have decided to withdraw from the 2017 draft and will return to Carolina next season," he said in a statementon the school's official site. "I know I can continue to improve my game and be better prepared for the NBA after another year playing against the best college competition in the country. There's no reason to rush leaving school. I love being a Tar Heel and love playing for Carolina and coach [Roy] Williams."

Jokes aside, UNC will obviously be very formidable again with him running the show. (Assuming Bradley comes back as well).

He was thinking about escaping all those losses to Duke, then he realized there are so many Duke guys in the league that there was no escaping.
Seriously though, no one ever really thought he was gone.

As much as I hate the Holes and their classless fans I will admit he is a heck of a college player but what choice did he really have? Even him saying another year will have him more ready for the NBA is kind of an empty statement. He will be D League after next year.

And rest assured Ol' Roy made sure Joel knew his chances of getting drafted were mighty slim.....

Real tough to take any shots at this kid. Hell of a college player. Good choice on coming back. He'll have his number retired by the time he leaves Carolina.

It is tough, because he seems like a pretty good guy and the type of player we would love....However he chose to go to UNC and that's the only reason needed.

I've been a fan of Berrys game since I saw him in HS, thought he should have played more his freshman year and thought he was their second best player as a sophomore, well ahead of Paige. Him back immediately makes them a contender again, no other way around it. But there was absolutely no chance of him getting drafted and coming back was a slam dunk no brainer no matter how you slice it. Declaring for less than 24 hours was comical though.

Hopefully Bradley stays in the draft.

Great college player, but don't care for him. Thought he should have shown more respect for Coach K than criticize him for Duke players locker room ban mid season.

Good for him, good for UNC, good for the college game, bad for us.

He's a great competitor and seems like a good guy, so I'm happy for him.

He can probably prevent an 82-50, which I liked about the last season after they'd won it all.

I actually like the kid too but his return ( which we all expected ) is part an' parcel of Roy's downturn in recruiting. Sure , scandal issues have hurt but having highly-ranked players return while their peers are cashing NBA paychecks hasn't helped either.

These are just a few. I've seen others. All tend to be in the 15-30 range. Anyway , his return was pretty much a foregone conclusion. Not many options other than D-League or Europe. The quintessential "4-year/good college player."

I'm sorry but Joel Berry is a little ***** and he is scared to even listen to feedback from the NBA brass. He tried showing everyone that he was going be a legit NBA player and then realized that he wasn't ready release Roy's tit.

Not sure when he thinks that he will have more hype around him than he did after this season at UNC.

This is equivalent of something you'd read on THR

It is a bit funny he declares to 'test the waters' and 24 hours later says 'I'm coming back'....but, oh well. He's a really good player and makes UNC a really good team next season.

They've downturned into a national champion, tho...

The bigger returner for them would be Bradley. If he leaves (which seemed to me to be a much greater possibility than Berry leaving), they will be VERY weak up front. I fully expected Berry to return and I think Bradley does too. But if Bradley leaves they could struggle a lot next year.

I disagree slightly only because it's a PG driven game. He's also a seasoned veteran senior who can control the game. That's huge. Although I do agree they absolutely want Bradley back- he would be a beast next year in the paint and I hope he stays in the draft.

That is what I chuckled at. It is pretty clear that there was never any real intention of testing the waters, just a little publicity "tip of the cap" by Roy.
