What do you all think is the best BBQ in Lexington? I have some friends coming down and they consider themselves to be bbq connoisseurs. I looked some review sites and it looks like Blue Door Smokehouse is the highest rated one here.

Blue door takes it for me. Lyles does pretty well If you wanna eat BBQ and take in some craft beers, as they're only a food truck at the moment.

Blue Door Smokehouse is the best. Red State is good, but it is not Blue Door good.

Best sausage and cheese biscuit in a box, bar none.

If they are true BBQ experts they will likely be disappointed. Lexington has places that can get you over a BBQ craving but they won't wow you.

Wasn't there another BBQ place there on Walton where Blue Door is now? Like Mary Lou's or something...that was pretty good.

Will give Blue Door a try next week. Have had some good stuff from Double H.

Red State, City BBq, Billy's are all not bad, not really great either.

The brisket at Blue Door is the best brisket I've had anywhere, hands down.

I still like the pulled pork and mutton at Billy's, it's more of a West KY style like I grew up on.

Red State is good, not great IMO but better than average.

City BBQ is mediocre, not a choice I would make personally but not a spot I would turn down either.

Willy's is hit or miss, consistency is their issue. I've heard they might not be around much longer.

I tried Blue Door once and liked it. Usually I go with Double H because it's more convenient. But I'm far from a BBQ expert.

City BBQ is mediocre for sure. The problem is the rest of Lexington's BBQ is also mediocre, imo. Although like I said before I haven't tried Blue Door.

Agree totally on Willys. Had it a few times, either really good or poor. And I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it closed.

Blue Door and Red State.

I also still love Billy's. Part of that is that I know to stick with the pulled pork there (don't think as highly of their other stuff). And they have some great sides that outshine other places imo. Those jalapeno cheese grits are the bomb.

Their brisket was awful. It was like pot roast.

Extry dipped
Drove down there one Sunday and tried it. Very, very different. Got it spicy. Liked it, but not my favorite. If you're from there and were raised on that style, I can see why you'd prefer it, though.

Think they made a smoked meatloaf one day that was good, haven't been there in like 2 years though.

Blue Door is the best I've had.

Lyles food truck is close.

Red State is satisfactory.

I've always liked Butt Rubbin. I haven't tried Blue Door yet but will have to check it out. For the Blue Door fans, have you had their burnt ends? If so how were they?

Have only tried City, I thought the pulled pork was fine. The cole slaw is vinegar based though, not a fan, the cheese fries were really good. Next time I come to Lexington, think I'll try the Blue Door, sounds like the winner.

Billy's is just not good at all. Maybe I've only been there when it "misses". Seems like a place that was maybe great years ago but surely isn't now.

For the most part, bbq is bbq. There are two ways to eff it up, overcook it or undercook it.

Are any of these places open on Monday? I don't know what it is about barbecue places and closing down on Sunday and Monday.

The discussion on Lexington BBQ Brisket begins and ends with Blue Door.

Blue Door is open M-Th 11-3; F-Sat 11-8

The guys at Red State do a good job. The beer cheese grits are outstanding.

Everything else ranges from meh to hit and miss. However, compared to even ten years ago the chances of eating decent BBQ in Lexington have increased exponentially.

That was one of the few things moving back to KY after six years in Austin that really hurt...leaving behind all that good TX BBQ.

I need some Rudy's or Salt Lick or Franklins dammit..!

Guess I need to head to Lex and try Blue Door.

Blue Door is authentic Texas-style brisket. It's not Franklin's, but no one is Franklin's.
