The 2000s were probably the best decade for comedy blockbusters so I can't fit more than 10 options on here.

Honorable Mention for votes

Borat
Role Models
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Knocked Up
Talladega Nights
Shaun of the Dead
Super Troopers

God the list could be forever.

Anyway- what do you got for your favorite?

Stepbrothers is the funniest with Anchorman a close second, but Anchorman is a better movie because of how it worked its way into popular culture.

It's between Tropic Thunder and Superbad.

Tropic Thunder was just so off the walls and brilliant from start to finish. It took a huge swing and landed it perfectly. While all these movies would need to be edited for today's standards, Tropic Thunder would have been axed during the pitch.

Superbad was just iconic for anyone in their 20's and 30's (and maybe into their 40s). It launched several careers, perfectly encapsulated what it was like to be a kid in the late 90's, 2000s and beyond. McLovin basically become a proper noun in the dictionary. Infinitely quotable. Never-ending cast of comedians and actors from that era.

80's was trash IMO. I don't care who has to hear it. Like everything in the 80's really: trash.

Now. I know I'm more of a 90s and 2000's kid, so I'm biased for sure. But you look at the list above for 2000's comedies.. and you compare it to this list and the top of this list... it's not even close. Police Academy? 9 to 5? The Blues Brothers? Like.. these are OK or even great movies. But these are the movies I put on if nothing else is on and take a nap after 5 minutes.. there is no world where the 80s top list is TOUCHING the list above for 2000s. Maybe it wins in depth, IDK.

Tough to pick, there were a lot of high school/college comedies then, or maybe I just see it that way because I started college in 02.

I'll go superbad or anchorman i guess

More honorable mentions:
Road trip
Scary movie
Zoolander
Meet the parents
Saving Silverman
I love Road Trip. It would be my second favorite on this list but I didn’t think anyone else would consider it.

Will Ferrell had an incredible run of movies in the 2000s. He might not be everyone's cup of tea, but you can't deny it was pretty great.

Someone should put together a top 10 list for each decade (<70's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's), then have like a karate tournament of voting between decades (e.g. 80's #1 vs 00's #1, 80's #2 vs 00's #2, ...)

That just doesn't do much for me aside from a few titles. But I also wasn't around for these films so maybe they hit differently in the 80s.

Like Cheech and Chong? Idk.

ahhhhh so many good ones! I loved super troopers! I watched borat only once in the theater and never again (don't think it would work for a rewatch). I was on the floor wheezing for about five minutes. I literally not figuratively was hurting from laughing.

Tropic Thunder wins though. I don't think that movie would be allowed to be made in modern times.

I went with Tropic Thunder but probably would've voted for Zoolander if I had the option. Ben Stiller had some great funny movies. His best IMO is There's Something About Mary.
tom cruise and rdj won that movie. goat performances.

Something About Mary came out in 1998.

The theatre I saw it in was packed and people howled from beginning to end. So much of the sight gags, jokes and plot were new. It’s old hat now.

My wife was crying laughing back then. Whenever it pops up on tv, she still talks about the audience reaction.

Of the list, Stepbrothers or 40 year old virgin for me.

No 80's list is serious without listing "Fast Times At Ridgemont High", "Beverly Hills Cop", "The Naked Gun", or "Coming To America".

I do love Tropic Thunder. I picked it but so many of those other are top notch as well so made that a tough choice.

Stiller, Downey Jr, Jack Black and of course Tom Cruise killed it n that movie though. The other actors involved all did as well.

Am I the only who Will Farrell does nothing for?

I think most of his **** is CRINGE.
And nope, have never seen Anchorman, Step Brothers or Rickey Bobby.
Only enough pieces of them to confirm my initial sentence.

My favorite exchange in Zoolander is when he tells Owen Wilson he is just jealous he didn't get the Derelict Campaign.

"You can derelict my balls."
"What is this? A center for ants?"
"How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read if they can't even fit inside the building?"

It's a generational thing, same with music. I'm a child of the 60s/70s and IMO, and many others as well, the 60s was the worst decade not only for comedies but all movies.

Sorry. I know this is a 2000s thread.

Superbad was my choice here.

I do think the most underrated 2000’s comedy was Saving Silverman though. That doesn’t get enough credit IMHO.
“We can’t kill her, Coach!”

“You’re Wheaton War Birds, you can do anything you put your mind to! What did I tell you boys?”

“If you can dream it, you can do it….”

One missing from the list I think is absolutely *perfect” is “The Other Guys”. Countless bit roles and storylines that were just hysterical.

- The British guys Ershon
- Michael Keaton
- Dirty Mike and The Boys
- The cop describing the crime scene
- The lacquered gun/rape whistle
- Bob the accountant
- “Desk Pop”

Even Wahlberg was money. Great flick.
