Best defensive performance of Stoops era

We've seen some pretty bad offenses roll over Eliot's defense over the last 3+ years, but not tonight. South Carolina brought one of the worst offenses in all of the sport to Lexington. Not only did Kentucky hold them in check, they held SC UNDER their season average. I thought UK would win tonight, but I never thought they'd hold ANYBODY under 300 yards!

Gonna enjoy this one! Nice win Cats!

I didn't think they'd win nor did I think they would stop ANYONE this year. An SEC win is an SEC win, I'll take it. Doesn't change my outlook on the future though.

Oh I agree. I'm just glad how big of a clown he looks, for today anyway lol

Vandy game in Stoops 2nd year was our best defensive performance IMO...we pummelled an equally bad SEC offense and got some take aways as well.

- Mike Edwards is coming on at safety vs. his first 2 games.
- Going away from 3-4 to a 4-3 look and Pringle/Middleton/Bell/Dubose are all way better options than Elam.
- And Jordan Jones may be best player on the team.

And UK really possessed the ball with the run game which immensely helped UK in 2nd half. We kept the ball almost 3/4 of 3rd qtr.

No doubt, I've always liked Stoops personally so it was good to see this tonight. I have no idea if the rumors are true or if he has a 2nd life at UK, but tonight was a good night.

The kids played their asses off and deserve to enjoy the win. The USC offense is terrible but I will take it. I don't know if they finally lined up properly, but I think the blitz package was effective. I do also think Gran called a very good game. This offensive has some weapons.

It was South Carolina. S L O W ur roll. They basically start freshmen at all key positions. Hell of a win though. Go Cats.

I am cautious but optimistic after this win. Everyone wants to knock the performance because it was a struggling South Carolina offense. However, they had the type of quarterback that almost always gives our defense fits. Normally a quarterback like that would run all over us. Today he had a mere 11 yards on 13 carries. We looked like an entirely different team tonight. It was kind of strange but encouraging.

I agree with a lot of your posts, but we were bottom 5 in almost every defensive stat. It wasn't like he was just hating on UK for personal bias. I just hope the defense can continue to improve.

It's a simple game sometimes. Give up points in the teens or less and you have a great chance to win every game. Give up points in the 30's or more and the opposite is true.

The gang tackling was impressive!

I'm happy but I also took SC +3. I hate betting against the cats but I thought it was easy money. I learned my lesson...

First time I've seen our defense be disruptive and physical in a loooong time. Cats still alive for that bowl berth. Absolutely had to have this win. And we controlled it for most of the game I thought.

Actually this was the best that a UK defense kept an athletic QB in check in my lifetime....

UK usually has the tendancy to make a bad offense look good, this time we made a bad offense look bad and held them under there average... That's encouraging.

Good game. Really enjoyed watching, and it has been awhile since I could say that. Don't remember any stupid plays and SC didn't score before the half. I'll take it.

We finally covered, and you still lost. Stop betting on UK games. It will save you a lot of money.

Love the duo of Williams and Snell.

Stephen Johnson is cooler than the other side of the pillow. Hes not going to miss a thing with his eyes the way they are.

Love watching Jordan Jones play ball. He's special.

Denzil Ware brought it.

Just an all around great game for our guys. Gives me a lot more confidence. If we can make it past Bama relatively injury-free and keep playing this style of ball, I like us in a lot of our games.

Put me in the the category of those who do not want to see us in the 3-4. Did we play it in the first half?

I'm aware the defense blew ***. I'm just excited that they looked good for once. We only gave up 90 something rushing yards. Have we ever allowed under 100 yards rushing in a game under Stoops? Would be interesting to find out.

I'm not trying to be negative, but USC ultra lite was at the bottom of every statistical category on offense.

Yes, but we were bottom on every defensive stat. So it kind of cancels that out lol

One thing I took from the game tonight was on the play where the guy hurdled our defender is the old saying is true. White men can't jump, Left foot got a whopping 4 inches of the ground.

Still a lot that needs to improve on defense. I really liked that we brought the energy. Now coaches need to channel the energy our players brought and build on it. Now we were in position to make plays, but still a lot of missed tackles that higher football IQ and experience will fix.
I haven't re-watched the game yet, but I'll say we missed out on 6-10 tfl/ sacks and around 100 yards for USC due to players overplaying. Get those guys to slow down at the right moment and USC would have been held to 150-200 yards of offense.
