Well the board is getting very slow. I’m sure because we should be discussing who will make finals? So let’s make some chatter and discuss who has the best football/basketball school in the state the past 20 years
Here’s my list

1. East st Louis- wow! IN both!!

2. Homewood- very solid in both, with multiple players playing both sports

3. Bolingbrook- very solid runs in both sports.

4. Loyola- football is a no brained, and hoops has been very good as well. Side note: north burns is much easier to make run in hoops, then south burbs.

5. Brother Rice
6. Simeon- I think I should
Move them higher. Have been very solid in football and a power in hoops. Probably a mistake
7. Edwardsville
8. Stevenson- should be higher???
9. New Trier- very solid in both but really can’t make deep runs in either
10. Lincoln-Way East- football props them here, but hoops has had some good years.

Benet is pretty solid in both. Finished 2nd in hoops 2x in last 10 years and always a football qualifier.

Lockport won a basketball championship 40 years ago. Not quite in the 20 year limit given

Off the top of my head, I know Lockport has won in both, as well as winning in baseball.
You may have been thinking of Football/baseball, back in the Christensen days. That being said, during that same time frame, Lockport hoops was very good.

LHSTigers stated that he thought ESL and Stevenson are only schools to win both basketball and football, I did not think he was referring to last 20 years.

Lockport has won a hoops title. Back in late 70s they beat St Joes when they had Isiah

I'm aware, but I too was thinking a smaller window. Hell, Oswego won a state title in 2003 and took second in basketball in 2008(ish), but I wouldn't call them a 2 sport power.

OK, but we are talking about 2 separate things. I was only addressing LHS statement about teams that have won basketball and football titles, at no point did I ever state that Lockport was a two sport power.

Ok, I think we both were interpreting it differently. I understood LHS statement to mean in the same school year, along the lines of the topic itself. I'm sure there are many schools that have won a title in both over the years.

After a quick glance I came up with the following schools that have won a hoops and football title.

Peoria
Batavia
Thornton
Providence
Mt Carmel
RIchards
L'port
Stevenson
East St Louis
Althoff

Im sure i may have missed a few.

All.
my question wasn’t very clear. I was thinking titles at the same time (calendar year or school year). I am sure that all schools have had moments throughout the years in all sports. Regardless there is a very short list of schools that have won a title in both regardless of time frame.

Let's go tiny...Milford / Cissna Park co-op 8 man football won the state title in 2018, runner-up in 19. Cissna beat Milford in the regional title game in 2019 en route to the 1A 2d place trophy in basketball in '19...

Or the local enemy...McNamara won 3A football in 2015, and the Irish hoops were 3d in 2A hoops in 2017. They also won the girls 2A title in hoops in 2015 & 3d in softball in '15.

There are many ways to measure this, of which the following is just one. Ten schools (in the larger class levels) have made it to the championship game in both football and basketball over the past 20 seasons. They are:

East St. Louis - 4 times
Peoria Central - 4
Normal Community - 3
Stevenson - 3
Richards - 3
Peoria Richwoods - 3
Lincoln-Way West - 2
Warren - 2
Oswego - 2
Homewood-Flossmoor -2

If one were so inclined (and I am), it would be fair to add Fenwick to the list based on what occurred in 2016.

Three schools (in the smaller class levels) have won state championships in both football and basketball in the last 20 years. They are: Maroa-Forsyth, Bloomington Central Catholic, and Harrisburg.

I don’t think Loyola should be in the top 10 of this conversation...yes a football powerhouse but basketball, outside of a couple good seasons here and there, has never been in discussions when it comes to top hoops, especially having them over Simeon.
