Someone to consider is Thomasville’s EJ Abrams-Ward. Played on three state championship football teams and, in four years, played fullback, wide receiver, linebacker and quarterback at different times. In his four years, the Bulldogs were 56-4, with two 16-0 seasons.
EJ also starred on two state basketball championship teams. Ironically, his best sport was probably baseball. He was the AP Male Athlete of the Year for North Carolina in 2007-2008 and was the number one football recruit in the state. Made a huge mistake in signing with Tennessee over State, UNC, Clemson and South Carolina. Got caught up in the coaching change there and was dismissed from the team.
That began a downward spiral that resulted in failed attempts at comebacks and legal trouble. He was undoubtedly the best overall high school athlete that I personally saw play.
