Seriouosly, I've lived in Lexington on two separate occasions and had no problem making single friends while I was single the first time I lived here and married couple friends now that I'm married and live here again.
I'm just going on what I hear from outsiders. Some ppl think lex is a little snooty. I see it too but otherwise it's an ok place to live

Not to the extreme of disliking outsiders, but there is this sense that although people are cordial, it's hard for outsiders to make friends--especially in the more established areas of town. Lexington is a tough nut to crack. I say this also as a lifelong resident.

That perception couldn't be further from the truth.

Veterans Park, most places outside the circle between Nicholasville and Harrodsburg, Beaumont.

Chilesburg and most areas around Hamburg are fine too I just personally wouldn't want to live there.
Masterson sounds like your cup of tea.

If I was to move to Lex, which neighborhoods would you recommend for a 300k house? I'd like to stay as close to downtown Lex as possible, but be in a safe neighborhood.

Any recommendations?

I notice Ashland Park and Chevy Chase are pretty much out of that price range.

thanks

You can get to d-town from anywhere in Lex in 20 minutes. Why the need to be close unless you don't like "subdivisions"?

Your price range will get you a safe and a good school system for the most part. Petty crimes in Lex are happening pretty much everywhere these days.

If you have trouble making friends, but have a hot wife i suggest seeking out the local swingers clique. You should not have any trouble mingling if she is a smoke show. Guys, and some women will flock to her, and may even speak to you.

Waterford is nice. It now is in district for Veterans Park Elementary which has always been Top 10 in the state for elementary school. Southern Middle school isn't great but could be worse. Not a fan of Tates Creek High but that's why my kids will go to a private school but I will stay there.

Only a visitor.. seems pretty easy to get to downtown Lex from the burbs. It's not like Atlanta or NY where you're talking hours. Living downtown is fun but it also has it's time and place. I'd list to those saying to move a bit outside. Schools will be better, more space, and you can get downtown pretty easily..
