Bill Monroe is the father of Bluegrass, an entire genre of music. Arguably, or not, it may be the only genre of music completely associated with one person. He may not be the "best" singer or musician, but would have to be the most influential coming out of Kentucky.

I like Nappy Roots. Cool dudes. I would not call them the best

Bill Monroe would be my choice, he is firmly atop the Mt. Rushmore of Kentucky musicians.

Wish we could steal Stephen Foster.

Bryson Tiller is certainly not the best, but would have to be ranked high for his genre out of KY.

Sadly, she's probably sold more albums and made more money than any other Kentucky based performer. (Not going to look it up, but just a guess.)
Mylie was born in Nashville...you're probably right on record sales and money.

Chris Knight is from Slaughters, KY. Very underrated and underappreciated artist.
Criminally underrated.

Saw him open for someone (can't remember, obviously they didn't impress me): thought he was destined for greatness but it takes a little luck as well.

I'll give you Bill Monroe but the Everly Brothers are reaching.
The Beatles and Beach Boys were both heavily influenced by the Everly Brothers. As in, the McCartney and Lennon originally billed themselves as the English Everly Brothers.

Richard Hell was great and particularly love his influence on Television, but he absolutely didn't affect popular music the way the Everly Brothers did

Brian Littrell & Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys are from KY and both are huge UK fans.

Kevin sang the national anthem at the UK v. Penn State Outback Bowl.

But the BS Boys sucked big time, unless you are a 10 year old girl

I didn't listen to them and it is not my type of music but they have sold over 130 million albums. It also leaves something to be said about the now 30 something year old hot chicks that are constantly tweeting them how much they love them and giving them bedroom eyes during concerts. :joy:

Saw Johnny Depp playing guitar with guys from Alice Cooper on tv the other night. Looked the part. Played like crap.

Gary Stewart hailed from Jenkins, KY:

Not my favorite (that would be ol' Dee-wight Yoakam), but very underappreciated.

Saw Gary at Marlow Tackett's Country Palace in Pikeville years ago. Put on a great show but he was so drunk he could barely stand on the stage. Seems like I remember reading that he committed suicide in Florida a few years ago.
