SNL was actually more of a wave.. There were quite a few hilarious runs, and then absolutely crappy years in between.

1975-1980 (whoever mentioned the early 80's, lol)
1985-early 90's
Late 90's
Mid 2000's
late 2000's/early 10's.

Honestly, it's really just the early to later 80's, mid/late 90's... and the last 5-6 years.. as the real down years of SNL.. every other year was at least decent.

The 80's was one of the worst decades while the 2000's was one of the more consistent decades. The 1990's are probably the shining star, and certainly have the most talent. 2010's have been awful.

Ha Aidy or whatever. Kate McKinnon could be great..And Bobby Moynihan is a solid cast member, very underrated. But as my co-worker and I were just discussing.. it's just wayyy to political now. They did a decent job with the election and trying their hardest to get some jabs at Hilary...

But the last few years have been so leftist it's sickening. You'd have to wonder if the DNC is donating to NBC..

Also I think it's about time we acknowledged Farley>>>Bellushi.

Perhaps it's a generational thing (I'm 32) but I never got the Belushi love. Though as evidenced by my av, Bill Murray is one of my comedic heroes, so probably not.

I suppose Farley is the "cheaper" laugh, but it was a damn hearty one.

On SNL I agree with you. However, in the Blues Brothers, Animal House, 1941, Neighbors, I get it.

Dan Aykroyd was much funnier with Belushi.

I was going to mention Bill as the lounge singer.[thumb2]

SNL to be judged in its time. The 70's stuff mostly incomprehensible unfunny to me, but I have don't have the context for most of it to make sense.

-Tales of Fraud and Malfeasance in Railroad Hiring Practices

-Get off the Shed

-Toonces / Lyle the Effeminate Heterosexual/ Massive Head Wound Harry / Nude Beach / Happy Fun Ball / Colon Blow / Tiny Elvis / Schmitt's Gay

You make a good point. I was 15 when SNL made it's debut in 1975. It was irreverent for it's time and the pot culture was booming. They catered to this segment of the baby boomers. I've never wanted to be a "get off my lawn" old man BUT the new SNLs just are not funny to me. Not since the late 1990s. I can fully understand how our humor doesn't work with the younger crowd so my advice is to enjoy and screw what us old fogies have to say. Times change.

Jim Lehrer: Which beings us to our final question. Governor Bush, both you and the Vice-President have offered plans to provide prescription drugs for the elderly. What makes your plan superior?

Al Gore: Jim, I'd like to interrupt here and answer that question as if it were my turn to speak. Jim, let me tell about a friend of mine. [ holds up a picture of an elderly woman ] Her name is Etta Munsen. She's 94, she's a widow living on Social Security in Sparta, Tennessee. Etta was born with only one kidney. She also suffers from poilo, spinal menengitis, lung, liver, and pancreatic cancer, an enlarged heart, diabetes, and a rare form of styctic acne. Now, several recent strokes, along with an unfortunate shark attack, have left her paralyzed and missing her right leg under the knee. Just last week she woke from a coma to find that, due to a hospital mix-up, her left arm had been amputated, infected with syphillis, and then reattached.

Jim Lehrer: Mr. Vice-President, we are short of time..

Al Gore: As you can imagine, Jim.. Etta's prescription drug bills are staggering. They run to nearly $113 million a day! And she tells me that some weeks she has to choose between eating and treating her Lyme Disease. Now, under my plan, Etta's prescription drugs would be covered. Under my opponent's plan, her house would be burned to the ground. And that is wrong. That is just wrong!

Jim Lehrer: Governor Bush? Response?

George W. Bush: I believe that some of those figures may be in-ock-urate.

Al Gore: Jim, what you just heard from my opponent is an attack on my integrity and my character. And I will not reply in kind. Instead, I will take those remarks and tuck them away, away in a tiny "lock-box", where all bad thoughts go.

Celebrity Jeopardy
Sandler singing the lunch lady song
Canteen boy

As a side note I think Phil Hartman was one of the most talented and underrated actors on the show.

Of the current show the Weekend Update is best part. Cecily Strong is smokin. Kenna is probably the funniest. They have a lot of work to do for sure

Anyone remember Uncle Roy character played by Buck Henry. Uncle Roy was a classic pedophile. The best skit that you can't find on line anyplace.

At this point, you have to see who the guests are and see what the writers can come up with. It's much easier to take someone famous, and base skits off their life, filmography, acting abilities, etc..

Perfect example: Casey Affleck and a Boston Accent.

Uncle Roy's Glass Bottom Boat Rides using the glass coffee table. Haven't watched the show in years, do they still do those little movie bits, like Belushi's dancer? Gilda's walk of shame?

This but move 1 to 4 and 2 and 3 up a spot. Cheri Oteri "The Zimmermans" were pretty good.
Uncle Roy always played two games with his nieces. One was hide the candy where the two girls had to find the candy hid on Uncle Roy's body and of course, Simon Says. Haha
