“This is Cawood Ledford saying goodbye, May God Bless You, and this is the University of Kentucky basketball network.”
I heard that call while in Germany, just before tossing my 13" TV out an open window from my second floor window (10 second delay between AFN radio and TV feeds - thank god nobody down below), and sat down on my bed and cried my eyes out.

Man that game was the ****. When Prince hit that runner to beat Florida at Rupp was pretty damn loud too, can’t remember if that was same year or not.

Same year, different season. The UF game was 2000-01 February...up 10 or so at halftime, blew lead and Prince hit the runner in the lane with a couple seconds left.

Unc game was 2001-02, Prince senior year and one of first games of season...early December I believe...definitely before Christmas. Still have the blue and white Santa hat that gave us when walking into arena.

Not a single person on this board will know wtf I’m talking about, but it’s Foster Hewitt’s “Henderson has scored for Canada” from the 1972 Summit Series vs the Soviet Red Army.

Studied in-depth.

Team Canada saved North American ice hockey during those cold wars. Some of the greatest comebacks, combined with questionable (******) slices, in modern history.

Edit: Team Canada proved they were truly the world's best during Summit Series.

Hockey for Canadians is like Kentuckians with basketball, only way more passionate. Combine that with the tension of the Cold War and that series was about more than just hockey. I wasn’t born when it happened but it’s ingrained into the very fabric of Canadians.

In honor of Doc Emrick retiring this year, this one was pretty damn good too. Doc is my favorite hockey announcer by far and one of the best in all of sports.

From what very little I recall, it was nothing short of amazing. Team Canada came back from a hole on this side of the pond and took it to Ivan (Red Army team) in the USSR, in their house.

As big, but probably bigger, than our own Miracle on Ice.

Honestly? Team Canada beat them by playing a more physical game. They differentiated between club hockey and real pro hockey. The cross-checks were absolutely f*cking brutal. Taught Ivan a lesson they never forgot.

Yeah, they were behind 3-1-1 heading into the 6th game of a (weird) 8 game series. Neither side would agree to having an extra game in their country, so they played 4 in each spot. Canada won each of the last three games in Moscow by a goal each, including coming back from a 2 goal deficit in thee third period of game 8 to win the series 4-3-1. The entire series was marred by both sides complaining about officiating and ref assignments.

It's highly unlikely that we will ever see any sports series like that again. There was so much more tied to it than hockey. The rough equivalent in today's climate would be for North Korea to build a powerhouse football team and have a team of US football players play them in a series, with half the games in Pyongyang. Not gonna happen, lol.

Esposito brothers, Paul Henderson and Bobby Clarke were the real stars on Team Canada squad. Clarke taught Red Army another hard lesson 4 years later while playing for the Flyers.

- Jack Buck - “And we’ll see you tomorrow night.” on Puckett’s walk-off in ‘91 World Series Game 6.

- Vern - “Yeah he did.” After Elmore suggested maybe Laettner didn’t mean to stomp Timberlake.
