One of my favorites from my childhood was the 1972 call by Al Michaels of the Reds Pirates game to win the pennant. “The stretch, and the 1-1 pitch to McRae. In the dirt. It’s a wild pitch. Here comes Foster. The Reds win the pennant.“ I was 9 years old and still remember it like it was yesterday.

I’d also encourage any horse racing fan to watch a montage of Zenyatta winning 19 straight races. Some of the calls are downright fantastic.

And Zenyatta is making a mockery of this field.

Zen was a ******* freight train.

Gus Johnson is one of the GOATs..and he's certainly the best modern day announcer, as far as catch-phrases are concerned. It's not even close.

I recall that. I actually thought he came from further behind & had forgotten the leaders had to fight thru lapped runners. What gets lost is Bob Schul coming from further behind (I think) to win 5K meters in same Olympics. Pretty sure only time USA won both races.

"Oh the Humanity" in the WKRP turkey drop. Greatest number of turkeys killed without a shoot.

Beat me to it. I'm 36 and that was the first Triple Crown winner of my lifetime. That was an epic call!
