First impression is that he plays below the rim for a 6'9 guy. He is still young though. He doesn't need to be a high flyer to contribute though. If Cal offers him then he see something so I will be cautiously optimistic.

The competition looks weak(as in always out of position)I wonder if the other guys are his age or older? He seem to have good hands and touch from 10-12 feet and in.FT's look solid.Wonder how much bigger he will get in 2 years?

OH MY!!! Is that Kyle Wiltjer I am seeing highlights of, wait or is it a less athletic Derrick Willis? Now I know not to doubt Cal and how he can access talent, and maybe it is just the YMCA rec. league it appears as though this kid is playing in. But it looks to me like this kid has the game of a 45 year old baller on a playground somewhere.

Looks good to me and like he could play the 3 or 4 easily at UK. If he dont start should be a great addition to our depth next year. Im sure we will add a Brown, Newman, Diallo, Zimmerman, Maker but with what we have and thats counting 6 going NBA draft we could still potentially have a starting 5 and reserve 5.

Doesn't seem to be the typical Cal type player, but I think what drew Cal was that he seems to be a very fundamentally sound player. No flash at all, and has good form on his shot. Probably a 3-4 yr player.

Your a fool to question Cal. When it comes to evaluating players. The kid is 16 years young. What is the point to even comment on his game since it will be 2 years before he even comes to UK. 6'9" 230 with a nba body may turn into 7'0" 255 player that everyone wants.

Just give him time .

This is the second video I've seen him play. In both of them all the players played very little defense. Must not be a priority with Oceanic teams.

I guess nobody should make any comments until we get our scouting licenses. It's obvious that this is our first look at the kid. Nobody is making claims to in-depth knowledge here.

I imagine some similar comments when Cal signed WCS. Not that Wynard will be another WCS.

One thing I did notice about him that I really like is that he keeps the ball high above his shoulders...putbacks might be his specially like Prickett or Josh. Thanks for the video.

Lets see what happens when and if he gets here and gets coached and has to play American competition. I am pretty certain as of right now you could find very similar 6'9 players all throughout the state of Kentucky.

Not sure how anybody can look at this video and say he will definitely contribute at UK. Willis's videos looked a lot better.

I like that he uses his 16 year young b-hind to get position . yeah, there's some real potential here. Tons more than just some 6'9 white kid who will hit a couple of 3 pointers and spend more time looking for validation than the player he's supposed to be guarding.

There are a lot of 16 year old, 6'9", 240ish guys playing HS basketball in Kentucky?

I have to ask- where are they hiding them?

100% certain he'll end up being a much better player than any of Pitino's foreign projects.

Feel confident in this kids potential for the same reason I feel confident Charles Matthews will be a better player than his rating would indicate. Because Cal likes him and wants to coach him. Not many kids can meet that standard.

Was just going to ask the same question. All throughout the state? You couldn't name five D1 caliber kids that size in the entire state, much less all throughout it or at age 16, cause they don't exist.

Not that that's the recruiting level we're comparing ourselves to anyway. Those who have seen him apparently really like him, including Cal, to take a commit like that so far out and with so many options on the table.

Read somewhere that George Raveling saw him in a tournament last year and told Cal about him,Cal must value his opinion.I don't think this guy is gonna scare anyone away, plus we always seem to have extra scholarships we don't use and end up giving away to walk ons ( EJ,Polson).

Yea let me re-phrase that.....In the USA sounds better than in KY. And no I will not question coach Cal, but I am simply voicing my opinion after watching the video. Hell I hope the kid shows up here and turns into Anthony Davis, and maybe in a year or two he is a 7ft 250 pound monster that is the white Okafor. Like I said lets see what happens when he gets here and gets coached, but right now to say he is a sure thing to contribute at UK is as absurd as me saying there are similar 6'9 players all over the state.

I must have missed the memo where New Zealand was considered a basketball hotbed, but i think a similarly sized kid playing basketball in this country against American competition might be more of a sure thing to contribute. And actually, even those are not sure things.

When all is said and done though, that is why Cal gets paid the big bucks. I am sure he has seen more of this kid than this fan has seen in that 3 minute video.

Good Lord, there are people on here forgetting that this guy is 16 years old.

SIXTEEN YEARS OLD.

He's like a high school sophomore. Nationally, there are similar sized American 16 yr old sophomores averaging like 8 pts and 6 rbs in high school who are being touted as future 5-stars based on their size and potential.

Personally, I think this is a genius move from Cal. 2016 class is full of superstar guards and wings, but only a couple of high caliber bigs. Meanwhile, we may lose a junior Lee to the draft, Skal and whoever else we sign this year may be OADs. Duke, UNC, Kansas, etc, will be scrambling to replace their bigs, whereas we've already got a guy with immense potential in the bag.

Plus, he may help us to land Isaac Humphries, an Aussie who may well be the best center in the 2016 class.

^ Totally agree with that, and we're all in wait and see mode, although there's been an uptick in players from that part of the world (and all over, really) lately. Steven Adams is from New Zealand, then Australia has produced Bogut, Dellavedova, Patty Mills, Dante Exum and even (kind of) Thon Maker. Technically, Kyrie Irving too, but not really. I'd even settle for a Luke Schenscher.

I realize that's not all one country, but it's a definitely a region that, population wise, is turning out some noteworthy players. For us to even have eyes down there has to mean something. Guess we'll see what the kid can do. If, two years from now, he isn't any good, I can guarantee he's asked to look elsewhere. Or maybe he's a teammate of some 14 year old who's the next LeBron James we haven't heard about yet and Cal is getting his claws in.

Too many variables, too much time, but the kid is big as a house already and whether he becomes the next #1 draft pick or is our 12th man, he won't be here if he can't play.

If only we could go back in time we would see these exact posts about Vinny Zolo. Very similar at this age

His free throw stroke was pure. Pretty good handle in traffic. Plays with his eyes up when he has the ball. More mobile than Dakari.

And best of all: Cal wants him, which is all that I need to know.

It's funny that you say this, because that's exactly who I thought of when seeing his videos. That's not going to be a popular opinion, I'm sure.

Also read that Raveling is the reason he visited Villanova, Raveling's alma mater.

If he gets to 6'11" or so by the time he shows up here then we are looking at a whole different player.Maybe we have another Jim Andrews on our hands, except with a mean streak to go with it.

NZBA head coach Zico Colonel said Wynyard's main attributes are his size and potential.
"Tai's got a great body type - very strong, I think that will project," Colonel said. "He's pretty skilled. His shot's developing. He's decent from 3-point range. He can go to right hand or left hand jump-hook … he has a lot of potential."

Looks like he will have a nice inside power game with the big body and he will
most likely grow more since he is only 16. Love the free throw stroke which will
really help because he should get fouled a lot. Another side benefit if there is
a fight he can pull out the woodchopper axe.
