No idea why this is out there, but it is...

Sumrall leads with 18% probability, followed by Schumann. Not sure who I'd take Sumrall has successful head coach experience. Schumann is from the Saban/Smart coaching tree. We'd be a steppingstone for either one, but that's OK I guess.

I don't know how much stock one should put into this list as it also lists Mike Shula as a candidate. I wouldn't overlook Nick Saban at +10,000.

SUMRALL. As I have said numerous times, study our history. Our football history finds that our most successful football coaches had prior, successful Head Coaching experience. Look at those who did not:

Richard Bell-fired after one season
Brad Scott- fired after 5 seasons
Will Muschamp-fired after 5 seasons
Shane Beamer-???

Can we attract successful head coaches who aren't retirement age?

One of the most inane sporting articles I've read in quite a while. Let's start with the very first sentence in the article "South Carolina could be searching for a new head coach if Shane Beamer leaves for Virginia Tech.

The last 24 hours are swirling with Franklin to VT, and yet we get the nonsensical Beamer to VT. SMH

Paul Dietzel hired by USC @age 42-produced our only conference championship
Jim Carlen hired by USC @ age 41- South Carolina had never won more than 7 games in one season, making it a psychological barrier for the program (and its fans). Won 8 games in a season two times; and he recruited the schools only Heisman Trophy winner (George Rogers)
Joe Morrison hired by USC @age 45. Produced the programs first nationally ranked teams, two such teams, ranked 11th and 15th.

Thus, the answer to your question is YES.

I agree it looks like Franklin. Thus, will Beamer be coaching for his job next season?

Another reason I'd go for Sumrall is to stick it to Tulane. As I've said before, my first Carolina football was on November

I asked CAN we. Present tense. Those examples are all > 40 years old.

My answer is OF COURSE we CAN. We have done it BEFORE. Tell me why we CANNOT. BTW, I did not know that 40-45 is retirement age.

Obviously not this year. Will Beamer be coaching for his job next season?

The most recent example you gave is from the 1980s. Over 40 years ago. Just b/c we did something in the 80s doesn't mean we are capable of doing it now. Just don't think those examples are recent enough to be relevant. Since then, we have added 40 years of futility to our track record to serve as a deterrent to prospective head coaches.

So, you don't think we could go to a lower level FBS school and hire a young, proven successful FBS Head Coach increasing his salary 3x-6x?

Supposedly Jamey Chadwell wanted the job but we decided to go with a Beamer.
