Let's just keep making excuses for how this season turned out. Iowa has to be the only team who's had injuries, illnesses, etc this year? None of this matters starting next weekend and two weekends after that.
Dec 30 it ended last year and this year Jan 4. They had Wisconsin Jan 9 .
Just some more excuses to back the brands poor handling of this year. It never endsDec 30 it ended last year and this year Jan 4. They had Wisconsin Jan 9 .
Yeah, that one was quite some time ago and I am sure they weren't worrying about guys having enough matches back then. Hell, I am pretty sure they NEVER cared about that.Yes, you know - the Soldier Salute Tournament, the tournament started in part by the Hawkeyes. The same one that had minimal participation by the "host team".

Again, I admittedly misunderstood. The way I read what you put, with a location being so close(ISU last minute tourney) along with the current timeline, I didn't assume we were worrying about matches from months ago...
No excuses at all. I brought this up before the season. I even mentioned I would send guys to Midlands so they still get matches and the training phase isn't interrupted. That was all before any of this happened. So how is that an excuse?Just some more excuses to back the brands poor handling of this year. It never ends
Have you wrestled? Have you had injuries while wrestling? Have you had a bad hand/thumb injury while wrestling? There is reason both his hands are being taped they way they areHe's had time
Yes, yes and yes. Also you missed the pointHave you wrestled? Have you had injuries while wrestling? Have you had a bad hand/thumb injury while wrestling? There is reason both his hands are being taped they way they are
I suppose it’s probably a 10% chance. So I say $10 to HWC from me if it doesn’t happen and if it happens you pay $100.How much do you want to wager on this?
I think 6th is realistic, at this point. This conversation has veered and might be better served in the crystal ball thread but screw it this is the cesspool for a reason. Gun to my head if I had to put a line on team standings finish I would say 6.5… so yes I think it’s unlikely they finish outside the top 10 but not outside the realm. I would put my money on finishing outside the top 6.
The training cycle…. How did that work out for us?You mean the one where the date was changed and messed up the training cycle before big 10 duals started
Go check the Wisconsin score againIs that the same Wisconsin match that the Hawkeyes won 45-0?
Good thing they didn't wrestle in the Salute, those pesky Badgers might have tripped them up. lol
I did not miss the point, if his hands are not up to the task then he is done and needs to heal or have surgery. No excuses just is what it is an he is not our guy that we need at 141 until he is ready, maybe never will be!Yes, yes and yes. Also you missed the point

I may be interested in some kind of arrangement, but I betting for and against the hawks for the bigger cause! 5-1?I suppose it’s probably a 10% chance. So I say $10 to HWC from me if it doesn’t happen and if it happens you pay $100.
BTW, the last minute tournament is no longer acceptable for meeting qualification/seeding criteria. I think this was a direct response to the Dresser tournies. This also places an onus on coaching staffs to plan with this in mind.Yeah, that one was quite some time ago and I am sure they weren't worrying about guys having enough matches back then. My focus has been to get everyone to March as HEALTHY as possible. If that meant them sitting out a bunch of matches, I was fine with that. Like Corby said, if they are placing one short of the allocations earned by the B1G, they almost certainly wouldn't be doing much at NCAA's anyway. My apologies, I thought you said that your perceived focus of the Hawks this year was to put the team (and individuals) in the best possible position for the post season. One would assume that would include wrestling enough to earn as many allocation spots as possible for the wrestlers to move on to Nationals.
All matches count the same, whether they were wrestled in January or February.

I haven't agreed with many of the knocks thrown at Brands, but that one has been something that has happened so many years now, that he had to try a different approach. I would rather the guys get to March in the best shape they can be with less than 15 matches than worry about an allocation they aren't healthy enough for it to even matter...
You are basing the health part on what? What starter won't be there due to health from wrestling this season? Mo is the only one and the reason behind that has been a source of considerable debate...It is looking like the Hawks are neither HEALTHY or ALLOCATING spots for the B1G conference. Double fail

Didn't Bailey and Kueter come into the season WITH those issues? As a result, they have been held out as much as possible to minimize making those issues worse. We know nothing about Angelo until we see him wrestle next week.Only one will actually be missing (Endene), but as you are certainly aware there are a lot of guys will be limping into the B1G tournament. Keuter has seen spotty / limited action with what is perceived as a lingering hip issue, Angelo out since mid-January with foot/ankle injury, and Bailey missed the last dual after taking substantial injury time at Minny.
For those counting at home, that is 40% of the Hawks starting lineup either out entirely or entering the postseason with serious lingering health issues.

Still, the point isn't to get into March 100% healthy that is NOT possible for ANY team. The point was to get to March as healthy as POSSIBLE. As far as Mo is concerned, he was cleared to wrestle by the Iowa medical staff. That is common knowledge.
As I keep saying, the next 4 weeks will tell the tale. Having 10-14 matches, instead of 20+, during the regular season sure as hell won't be a negative factor...
This has been talked about on here idk how many times. Bailey has been taping his hand(s) well before his time at Iowa. Maybe at least get the facts right if you’re going to try to use something against the Brands lolWe have no idea what level of health we can expect out of Bailey, Angelo or Kueter. The premise seemed well intended but Toms experiment of less matches is more didn't work out as planned.
The one thing that makes me scratch my head is Tom handled Bailey. The kid had a huge tape/brace on his left hand prior to the Salute but he still ran him out there. He then later in the season hurt his right hand which isnt on the coaches. Seemed like a dislocated finger. And I agree to then hold him out since that.
But given his original left hand injury and the comment he was thinking about health in march. Wouldn't Bailey been benched for the Salute to heal when he sat other starters who were deemed 100% healthy just for weight cutting.? He should have been first on the list of sits.
Brands just doesn't make sense anymore. Sure he is privy to stuff none of know about but I think most cant trust him to fly the plane nor land it anymore. He creates his own luck and its bad a lot anymore.
I think Willie picked us 6th.I think 6th is realistic, at this point.
You think weighing in and wrestling one more weekend would have made the dual season worse?? Seems impossible.
I know a guy that saw this coming for years now and got piled on for it continuously. You were one that piled on several years ago. That idiot Spooner was easily the worst though, from his basement. Our team is where it is and talking about that here is not making excuses for anyone.
I will repeat what I have said for a fews years now, Changes need to be made!
Very true, especially when his plan is to grab hands and fingers in neutral and ride to win.Bailey needs to let his hands heal up whether it's a procedure or just time, thumbs can be very difficult to deal with when injured and obviously affect your GRIP tremendously!
So we recruited a transfer with no hands? Seems like a good one to go after. Is Williams out cause he’s hurt or a quitter? I’m assuming quitter since he just wrestled; but we didn’t look into his past enough to know this before giving him a bag? All the excuses being made for our wrestlers are pathetic. There’s no excuses for the LR transfers besides our coaches either suck at scouting recruits or are too lazy to do their due diligence. Also if Keuter is so injured why can he dive around the mat like a fish outta water the last 30 seconds of the match when he’s losing. This has been talked about on here idk how many times. Bailey has been taping his hand(s) well before his time at Iowa. Maybe at least get the facts right if you’re going to try to use something against the Brands lol
It has? So he does it because it looks cool? This has been talked about on here idk how many times. Bailey has been taping his hand(s) well before his time at Iowa. Maybe at least get the facts right if you’re going to try to use something against the Brands lol
Yes, you re 100% correct, I don't know what i was thinking. You win.
I think Willie picked us 6th.
I think we will have to wrestle really well to finish 6th. Ayala, a 2 time finalist will have an awful seed and truly might not AA. Petersen at 125 will have to wrestle as well as he has all year to AA. 141 is a no. 149 is a no. 157 is a no. Caliendo will place top 3 in my opinion. Kennedy, 4th to R12. Ferrari, who knows at this point. 197 won't quaify. Keueter will have to beat someone and until that happens he is a no also. Truly epic for our program. Beth sure as heck should have been in contact with Gable and on the phone with a few great candidates. I truly hope it's Metcalf. He was a GREAT Hawk and could bring in some great assistants and recruits.I’m glad we’re getting to the tournament healthy as possible for that 6th place finish![]()
I see PSU, Ohio State and Nebraska finishing above us at Big Tens. That makes me want to throw up........4 to 6 for NCAA. I didn’t see a B10 prediction but 6th there would be an epic disaster.
Who is ready for my alternative theory of B1G qualifications?
Everyone says Sanderson is playing 3D chess. It is possible Brands skipped 4D chess and went straight to 5D.
It is a four step plan:
- By not allocating 5 weights for the conference he gives those 5 extra slots to other, weaker conferences. No conference is as strong as the Big Ten, after all.
- His wrestlers then go and steal spots from B1G wrestlers, thereby cutting them out of the action to make room for weaker wrestlers from weaker conferences.
- By gaming the field he improves his own wrestlers odds/decreases the odds of an upset when it really counts - at the NCAA tournament.
- Profit.
If Iowa fails to qualify all 10 weights next year I will consider this confirmation.
