Tell me you didn’t wrestle without saying you didn’t wrestle….and if you did wrestle, it surely wasn’t at a high level. Ask every damn wrestler that has about the difference. I sure as hell am not making it up.

Hell, you can do a quick Google and find Gable talking about it in depth and I am sure you wouldn’t have to look hard to see Metcalf talk about it as well…
Van Ness is a two-time All-American who’s never made a final. You’re acting like Ryder was up against some generational talent, while Gable was talking about his own experience in his last finals match, which is the exact opposite of the point you’re trying to make. And I’m confident Gable wouldn’t be making the same excuses we’re seeing from you in this thread.

I mean, his credentials were definitely up there. Not a lot of junior world champs in high school.

Also, no one made that comparison. Total false narrative aka troll.

Can you twist the narrative any further? Peterson lost to the #1 seee on 2 crazy close calls. Ayala avenged a loss in dominant fashion. Bailey dominated. Block nearly beat the #1 seed. 2 backups are the only other losses.
. Considering they were seeded to take 7th, yeah they have wrestled damn good so far!

But everyone knew Iowa was underseeded. It’s been a mixed bag at best.

BK outwrestled his seed with one win
That’s just how disappointing the season has been for BK and Iowa in general. Nationals is already written for me. Ayala, Mikey C, PK, and Angelo All-American, and maybe one other guy. So five All-Americans with Mikey C losing to Messinbrink and PK making a run to the finals. That’s what I’m predicting.

We have a coach that won worlds with 4 snap down go arounds. That style of wrestling wouldn't win a Pennsylvania state championship. The other coaches are fringe all Americans. Nothing about iowa's coaching equats to success. If they don't show up ready to win they won't. Metcalf, lee, McDonough, showed up ready.
Weird. I still see snap down go behinds win worlds, olympics, and NCAA every year. What are you expecting, super ducks and cement mixers?

Block was more of an adrenaline dump than flat gassing. He went full out against simply a better wrestler and hit a wall.

There is a massive difference than just running out of gas wrestling your normal match. Think Kennedy when he lost to Gaitan. Hell, even Metcalf and Gable have talked about it when they lost their finals matches and we are talking about guys that basically NEVER gassed…

Simply put, the only way Block was winning that match was how he went full out for as long as he could and I respect the hell out of him for it and won’t knock him for only being able to do it for 6 minutes instead of 7…
Mark my words that match just helped Block in two weeks.

Ignoring all else, and just looking at the tournament itself in a bubble, that would actually be a good showing. Dare I say it is a pretty optimistic outlook? I certainly do not think they will get five or six all Americans.

I don’t care about the seeds. I care about the effort and actual wrestling on the mat. With the exception of Voinovich and Gabe wrestling a guy 15% bigger than him, I have zero doubt that Iowa, so far, has wrestled WAY better than they did all season.

I get that the regular season put them into the matches they lost, but those matches were wrestled waaaaay more competitively than they would have been a month or 2 ago…

I don't mind the stalling calls against Block, but they NEVER call it like that anymore. That's the frustrating part.

I do think they were easier stalling calls than most because of the way he immediately drifted to the edge for the whole 3rd and part of the 2nd period.

I just want consistency too though. It doesn’t matter that the PSU reputation is offense and ours isn’t. Each match is a blank slate but it’s definitely not treated as such

Block has gassed in multiple matches this year so the comparison to Metcalf/Gable (LOL) isn't apt. It's something physical with him, either he's cutting too much or is just one of those guys that will never have great stamina.
Regardless it's a shame he had the 1 seed dead to rights and couldn't finish.

I love how those chasing a narrative can’t see the difference between a reason and an excuse. I absolutely hate the word “excuse” because it is so often used to completely ignore cause and effect.

This isn’t a case of “my alarm didn’t go off” or “my dog ate my homework”. This is a real thing where Block deserves some damn praise instead of ridicule.

He didn’t run out of gas because he has been lazy, eating wrong or not training properly. He went as hard as he could for as long as he could against an undefeated #1 seed that likely walks to a title in 2 weeks…

My god I would hope they wrestle better than they did during the regular season. It’s not a very high f’n bar lol.
And I am supposed to be the guy that moves goal posts? The difference has been substantial. Still a lot of wrestling left though. I guess we will see how the guys do on the backside…

Iowa is going to get 4 to the semifinals. That's wrestling great according to some. If you believe that it's sad the shape this program is in.
And you really believe Peterson and Ferrari are #8 seeds. 3 of the 4 majored their way to the semifinals, Ayala was a point away. Half of this thread has been pis* and moan about Block. My major complaint all year has been the boring style and lack of offense. Peterson, Ayala, Bailey, Block, Mikey, PK, Ferrari and BK (first match) have all increased pace and have not gone to the 3rd period hoping for a TD to win. You can poke holes in my statement, if you want. I am saying they are putting forth more effort and urgency than they have all year.

We care about winning.
We're in 5th and you're literally on here talking about effort and competitive losses as though it's a victory.
Much respect for wrestling at the D1 level but your msu level expectations continue to make you an outlier among Iowa fans.
