He said “a little more fight there maybe”. Well I thought Kale Peterson showed a lot more fight than Bailey, and he went with Bailey because your lineup is better with Bailey in it. Everyone knows that. How many times has Brands said you put your best lineup/team on the mat especially when it counts.
The whole 157 situation is bizarre. Giving VV easier opponents leading up to conference — #28, UR, UR. Williams very competitive tight matches with three top 5 ranked guys. Just another self inflicted wound by Brands.

Gable had a kid go awol on the team before Big 10s. He searched and found him eating donuts in a grocery store. Talked him back. Personally drove him the tourney and stayed up with him during cut.

I don't either. Williams was given the "if you don't care why should I" treatment. He may have qualified for Nationals, but he wasn't doing anything once he got there, so BFD.
I don't doubt that Bailey was in the same boat, hand "injuries" aside. To his credit, or detriment depending on how you feel about him, he showed what he can do a bit yesterday when he actually puts forth some effort. But he also showed what happens when he quits wrestling so....
